Are ongoing..... No surprise there. Life is indeed life and gaming is indeed gaming....... Ongoing. No real surprises all round....
Let me waffle to catch up.....
The Steam hardware survey rolled around again... Interesting, but 'meh'. For me I've gotten my money's worth out of my current PC and Laptop. Each extra day of use is a bonus. Times 10 for the laptop. As for replacements, not in the immediate future, not in the near either..... All currently have the extended year of Win 10 updates courtesy of Microsoft/Xbox points. So time will tell....
Of games on my Steam wish-list there are two who's demo's I've tried and my PC has failed to launch due to the specs needed. A thing that hasn't happened to me since my PC in the late 90's..... The games in question; Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 And Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Something to watch on the list for the future anyway, but a new PC needed to play.
A Youtuber, Bind has two good vids about his time in an old MMO(Darkages); Worth the watch.
Battlefield 6 is of interest to me but maybe a year down the line when it's been patched, added to and well played; Never mind being cheaper.... Neebs Gaming has some interesting vids on the subject.
The Frights in Tight Spaces DLC is also somewhat interesting but not an immediate buy, even with the season that it is........ Again with the wishlist.
Starship Troopers Terran Command is a game that I thought I was 'done' with but it keeps getting updates/improvements etc etc. Territory Mode update so I might have to look into ti further down the line and get back into it......
Robocop:
Unfinished Business is still a bit of a mess it seems. Perhaps a DLC too far, that has 'ruined' what was a magic revisit to a theme. Even a while
after it's release I've still not bought into the DLC; Even after it's
multiple hotfixes. Removed from my wishlist....
I have too many games. The Steam curse is real. A lot I want to play, some I want to gain value from and others I want to excuse..... I've played the Mass Effect games back in the day on Xbox(360) as each came out, gaining full value from them at the time. End of the trio was a genuine controller throw down moment in a " No F'N Way" disappointment. The redone "the end" after it was patched was.... "meh".
Great games but that ending is 'controversial'; So the PC version Legendary Edition was an easy buy on sale..... Yet I've never replayed the games never mind on PC.... Still on a 'to play' list...... But...... If I've not played them yet am I really going to do so just because they are on a 'list'..... Not yet so no need for the list......?
The other hindrance to a list of games to play is that MMO's have a tendancey to be complete time sinks..... So having two of those at the moment is a time kíller. STO and Eve Online. But Eve has just lost my paid sub time sooooo I need to ween myself off it's game-time.
So yea Xbox....... Has also lost my sub.... I was miffed at the increase a year ago; Bought a year worth of the old price via a game shop(smyths) vouchers to see how it would go; As it's only increasing I've let it run out.
The only online play I needed the online sub for realistically was Battlefield 1 and I've not played that on console in a long while. So no loos......
As for Star Trek Online it's access to play online is given re their online purchases.... Not that I do that but it's a great way to play a game and not pay for it.
Needless to say the meme's the outrage and the shills have all been
entertaining in many ways. Talk about Xbox/Microsoft dropping the
goodwill ball through the floor.
The last few weeks have seen me playing a lot more Planet Crafter, co-op with my wife on whatever she was interested in. Mainly a new main game from scratch. My greatest addition was the creation of a cookie farm, these things have to be done!
With the Toxicity DLC coming in a few weeks we're throttling back the gameplay so that we don't enter the DLC already played out form the game.
I've waffled about Breachway before. It's a great game with long-term updates/patches and tweaking to improve the user experience. For as playable as it is I can't help but keep thinking more about FTL as being more playable. I've no regret in buying Breachway I just wish I could get more from its gameplay. I think it's one I've shelved..... But it keeps getting more changes and content......
My sentiments are the same for the game Plan B Terra-form, great game, lots of patch up keep and tweaking etc.... But I'm not getting from it what I think I should get.... Ultimately another game to shelve for the long term....
Maestro is a VR game I've had on my wish list this last while; A sale came and I picked it up with it's DLC content. A harder game than I expected. Which is a good thing given I wanted a Beat Sabre-a- like VR game with challenge and there is indeed challenge...
I've also removed Broken Arrow. Again a game I'm all 'about' and 'into'; Yet I have doubt about it and it's single player mechanics which seem to have issues that are being looked at by it's devs as features and not bugs....
What this person said sums it up well:
Mini Metro and Mini Motorways now have a build mode, great to see but not something for me right now... Great to see the support for the game being pushed on.
ETS 2 and ATS coming to consoles is a great thing and long overdue(Dev Talk). Not that other console titles akin to them haven't been in the space but they've not been the best and no comparison side by side.
Both games have been receiving updates fast and furious, great to see but given I now have 3 of ETS 2's dlc's on my wishlist, it's a bit too much of a content flood!
The Ireland map is long overdue but glad they are doing it!
Before the current Halloween event I've only spent minor game-time with ETS 2; Bracing for the event which will be followed in quick order by the Winter event. So plenty of game-time to come before the year is out.
The Halloween event has been reworked to have it's own area akin to the winter event changes; There is not a portal to a new thematic area....
The community event was completed a day or so ago and that allowed me to claim the last of this years event goodies.
The Great War Western Front has been a game I've had on the long finger. It's detail is daunting. It's too much of a grand strategy game for me. It's detail is extreme; Both on continental overview and on battle maps. It's vast take on the genre of game is a slap in the face, talk about a wake up call.... C&C is for toddlers by comparison. I've played all I can of it this week, I feel like I need a break...before I get anywhere near it again.... All of which will be a recurring way to take the game on, long term.
Words of Vengeance has a Major Update! It's a fun and different take; I've not had a typing game in decades but this Boltgun variety is hilarious.Auroch Digital
On the subject, Boltgun 2 has grown in interest for me..... I've noticed the nuance in the trailers and details coming out that are making it more worthwhile than I initially thought.
Fargone has been getting a lot of development updates. Great to see.
Subnautica for an update, which suprised me. 2025 Patch Released. I'm sure that's more a trickle down from the Subnautica 2 development..... Maybe.....?
Going back to Removed games from my Steam Wishlist; I've removed Massive Galaxy....
There's a lot of talk about it being on hold, with a redevelopment planned on creating a better trade and exploration side to the game....... But since that update/details never came in 2022, it's fair to remove it in 2025.....
Hitman / World of Assassination has seen me return to the games, 1,2 ane 3 campaigns. getting challenges/feats and unlocks. I was just in the mood since seeing the 007 First Light game details. Time will tell how the gameplay goes long-term..... Good game gets played, seems I'm mostly over the redoing of things I've done/unlocked twice already.....
Assassin's
Creed Odyssey is a good game but doesn't have a driving
motivation like Origins had for me. Such a large game with so much
content would be better for me if I'd not had any other game like it on that
scale... There's only so many a player can handle over time....
The
game is good, Assassins Creed the same but different. But not enough to
'make' me keep it as a long-term game. I'm looking down the list of
games to play I'd rather get into Mad Max for PC (100%'d on Xbox), play
The Witcher 3 - Complete Edition before a friend kílls me, then there's
Red Dead 2 on Xbox........ Which the same friend would double kíll me if he hears I've not been into that as well.
No Mans Sky, talk about the game that keeps on giving. So many great update/expansions.
Still, good as it all is, it's too much game for me, I've been left behind in the dust of that stampeding crowed. Not that I didn't take a look during the Voyagers update. I wanted to update my character with that suit.
Speaking of space based games...... Chorus is a game I've been enjoying far more than Everspace(the second never floated my boat), oddly I think the story oi Chorus is the main driver where Everspace 2 was more 'generic' sci-fi. Chorus does the sci-fi story in it's own thing. That said it's a game that is more off my play list than on With luck more of it played before long.
Star Trek Online on both PC and Xbox has been a daily constant; The difference in platform the same game but different. Small nuances, but both enjoyable to me. My wife still plays the pc version. We've seen a lot of dailies, rewards, claimed items and 'endured' downtime's etc etc....
I'm looking forward to claiming the week of freebies with the next episode on console.
The latest Halloween event is as fun as usual; But the reward and the Thriller theme seems more fun than usual, so maybe a Deca 'feel' to their running of the game.
Eve Online.... After years with a yearly subscription on two accounts my sub has ended. I was sure that there would have been another yearly sub with free MCT x2...... But no, so once it needed on the accounts I had about 2 weeks of normal single character training... Time to tidy and finish up my characters affairs. Oddly not too disappointed as the time it free's up will actually allow me to play a lot more games.
The
last few weeks has seen me spend a lot more time on the lesser of my
accounts but still effective..... If you've read this blog for a long
time you'd recognize them as being the PvE and PvP alts..... Created via
a certain game time code form a certain box of a certain timed event
I've still not forgotten about that (grits teeth) Mystery.......
Anyway I've been trying them out again, seeing where they were and with what assets..... Trying to get them in a corp.....
Sooooo, with all my characters being Alpha I have limited access to their industry side etc... But can experience the game. The new expansion on the 18th of Nov will be of interest to see the new ships and reworked map(take 3?) if nothing else. But time will tell if I get back into it 'properly'.... Or bail from it long-term....
