Games with Gold....

That time again; Games with Gold.

Last month I claimed the games but only played one. Lost Planet 3, which was interesting for about half an hour, then it got uninstalled. While I said I remembered the first game being promoted I found the second game listed under old Games with Gold .... Looking back it was from last Feb.... Guess it didn't make an impression on me. Lost Planet 3 was of mild interest to see in action, animations/game systems have not aged badly but they are nothing special today. After about half an hour of gameplay I was done... As for the other games last month I didn't even try them....

----

For September's(2021) the games look to be as interesting a mix as last month. Variety is good to see even if I'm not 'into' them.

Warhammer Chaosbane. I admit, I get confused by the amount of lore/cannon that Warhammer has. I'm 'into it' enough that I like elements/themes/lore/styles but I'm not 'into it' enough to actually say I know things. Yet I'd say I'm more 'into' 40k. There are differences. But on that score I feel both more drawn to 40k but less qualified to discuss it. I'll stop waffling before I dig a deeper hole and just say that I'll claim and try Chaosbane out. If it clicks as a game it clicks and will see more time with me. Despite the theme/franchise of this game; I'm picky about this style/type of game. Some ARPG's work for me and others not so much... Recently that's been everything Vs the Torchlight games. Mood of the moment etc. The one thing that I really, really like about the footage I've seen of gamepaly... Lots of DPS numbers.

Mulaka - This one may have a lot more combat to it but I've been into this type of stylized, immersive, stroy/journey kind of game for a while now(akin to Abzu, Planet Alpha and The Witness). Again another game to claim and try.

Zone of the Enders HD Collection; Which includes Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders The  2nd Runner. From footage I've seen the gameplay Mecha looks interesting but that aside it reminds me of an old OG Xbox title. Otogi. I guess that's down to similar thematic camera and movement styles based on hack and slash while gliding in the air like an oriental epic(more Crouching Tiger then Monkey). More to claim and try.

Samurai Shodown II. Best described(from my limited view) as a Streetfighter looking game with weapons. It's got it's own franchise and it's own fanbase due to it's slightly different take on fighting.  That's a vastly generalized take on the game... One I'll try but I've lost my need for fight games a while ago....

Total War: ROME - REMASTERED....

Yet another game I dip in and out of long-term and which I've and an extremely long history with.
If I was a 'real' "influencer" I'd be waffling on about "How I was there on day one!"; Or a real try had and waffle about pre-release alpha, beta and private demo's. But I'm an old dog from back in the day, a gamer who read a magazine or two, saw some internet 'stuff' and picked up the big box game in an actual shop the weekend after it's release. But the 2000's saw a move from big box to DVD case so it was a rare occasion to get both in once package. Yea in a shop/store..... Those were the day's(October 2004). Kind of like the ancient empire itself. All rose tinted romantic notions about how it was..... Avoiding slavery and the blood n'gore of the arena; Or like avoiding snot nose toddlers pawing game boxes and long queues to a cash register.... Back in the day.... eh....

Anywho....

It's a great game that has seen flaws, patches, patched flaws and flaws that were left in... I guess today they would be called 'features' in an artistic way. It's a game that allowed a player to play it how they wanted. Painstaking grind with all the hardest options to console code time savers(cheats?) like additional coin to grease the wheels of war..... This game allows for a wide variety of gaming moods.

It's remaster was a bit of a surprise when it was announced. Playing it shows how well it was done and the options they considered. Everything done right; No complaints.

Since it's been out I've played it and enjoyed it as much as the old version over the years... Both versions have 'got it'. So no wonder I've been pottering away with both versions. I guess I like the 'retro' nostalgia of the actual older software and it's systems if even now I still go back to it. Too many comfortable memories(and here) to just ditch it in favor of the remaster alone just because it's a 'newer' version. The remaster will earn it's memories via long-term gameplay. Time will tell.

Going through saves and redoing some campaigns/battles is one thing but the mountain of achi's on Steam is a no go for me. I'd be trying to do them for the achi's alone and leaving 'the fun' behind. I'd rather 'just' play the game and if an achi pops then great.

I did smile when I saw this in the remaster, a faithful version of the game? Everything old is new again.

XO....

While the mega update is indeed a mega update of changes and tweaks with lots done. It's not complete, it's not meant to be complete just yet. I get that; But for as much as has changed and that I like there's still some 'unintuitive' aspects overall about the game concept and implementation that I find frustrating. My thoughts on the game are as changing as the updates to it. Pro and Con. Very much a me thing and I've not given the game enough time long term to grow on me and definitely not enough play since the mega patch came out so I'm probably being too harsh too hastily.... I go on gut feeling and my gut feeling is that I'll be waiting a while for a finished product and pass real judgment once it's final form is revealed. Lots could and will change yet.

Too harsh? Maybe.

Like many games when new massive patches with equally massive changes come out the feedback needs to be taken into account. Nothing like releasing a product into the wild for it to be torn apart in ways you never thought possible in combinations you couldn't have foreseen. Bug fixes leading to new bugs and more changes and new patches etc. etc.

Great to see changes, great to see updates and all the new additions.... Not a game I'll be playing really beyond a post patch tutorial refresher... Still one to keep an eye on.

Xbox One....

After years of faithful service it seems that this week my original Xbox One was 'affected' by the return of the Black Screen 'o' Death glitch this week....

Which was a pain as a hard power reset and all the 'easy' fix it options weren't working to get it back up and running.

Thankfully 'most' of my saves and related files are "in the cloud".... Thank you Microsoft servers. So a software reset wasn't as hard a button press as it could have been.

Not that getting to that menu was easy... Not for me on this console this week(never needed it before). The usual hold the sync and eject buttons didn't work. I had to download the reset files to a usb, remove the network cable and then boot off it, which proved temperamental in itself.
Once that menu was accessible I got the reset option, bit the bullet and pressed it. Removed the usb and reattached the network cable. What a PITA! But it went through the processes and reset/resetup the Xbox/login etc.

So a few day's of re-downloading games, saves etc.... While the likes of the game saves are wiped from thje console the games themselves are still technically there after such a reset. I noticed they weren't fully recognized so had to be redowenloaded anyway... Which was interesting as it screwed with the disk space % readings. Games there and recognized but once played not recognized and needed a redowenload anyway....

End of it is that things are 90% there. Some minor game updates and tweaks to settings still to do. I still need to see about the older 360 games and redownlaod their saves but that's not a priority. 100% is still a bit off yet.

Mini Motorways....

Gameplay that soaks up time but seems like a blink of the eye is always an indicator of fun. It is with this game, at least to me! The three hold out cities for some travel achievements have now been 'done'. While I'll be avoiding the 'get 2000' trips achievements for every city; The last three that needed the lower journey achievements have been reached without too much hassle.

Then:

Now:

Still fun to be had, achi's aside.

Still fun to push the limits(and if anything unlocks achi wise then so much the better).

Cascades to failure are still 'fun' in their own way. A scramble for survival. By that stage there's noting to be really done with a map, not easily. Granted you can pause and completely clear/breakdown a map and rebuild with a new 'plan'. That's not the fun of it, not for me. I salute and let it slide into oblivion....

It's also been fun/interesting to watch gamers with such OCD for the game that they can't handle how others play it; Driving themselves crazy, obsessing all over twitter just because some players are casual about it... RNG placements on top of limited RNG resources that a player has no control over and still these other OCD players get spazzed out(to become more angry than a situation warrants)... This is not the game for an OCD person to chill with or even observe, it's trigger central..

I only need one of the remaining achievements. To complete 7 more daily challenges for the 14 days of dailies. Game once a day for the next week doing the chosen daily, not hard at all.
All the other achi's (14 of them) are ones I can ignore. I'm into the game but I'm not 'Hardcore'. If I tried to do them I'd be playing the game for the sake of the achi's rather than the fun of the game.
Once the daily achi is done I'm going to 'relax' and play the game when I feel like it.... For fun..... As games should be done.

Quake....

Speak of the devil.....After just mentioning Quake, bringing my nostalgia for it to the fore; They go and bring out a 'modern' systems version of the games. Viva la Quake franchise(Steam sale)!

Getting access to the new version through Xbox Ultimate for PC is good(Quake and Quake II). Getting access to the N64 'addon' is hilarious to see. As smooth as the new 'normal' updated version is to play(it's an amazing update of the game, blown away), having the N64 version as well, seeing it's 'filter' view is retro gold in action. It's been a highlight for me. That and the multiplayer bots. Lots of fun had and to have yet.

Messing about and seeing the new version of the game has been fun. It really is so smooth it's a massive retro nostalgia feel without the hassle of older software. From all I've seen so far it's an amazing revision of the original Quake(not tried the second). I tried to get my old demo to work but the console commands weren't recognized. Which means that the commands have changed and/or it's just not possible to play older files. I've not tried my old saved games. Nostalgia is a big part for me. With the old version of the game still working I'm kind of ok not doing anything with this new update version(playing it more fully). Maybe somewhere down the line when I see the lot bundled for a super cheap price(after today)...... But yea been there and done that and I like my nostalgia. Besides I'd not be into such a fast paced PvP online today. This is no longer 1996 or 1998.. Playing it now wouldn't be the same(for me). Matches would be fast and get frustrating really quickly(I'd say it would be OTT competitive fast).

The N64 version is one I'd never seen let alone played back in the day. Given the 'restrictions of a port' to the N64 back then it's differences are interesting to see now(for me). A game I know so well as a console version that's got it's 'limited' ported layout and yet has 'better' differences 'of it's day' like colour lighting....Retro give and take fun. I find it interesting to see the differences, that's all. Like I said a game I know back to front and there's a version as an add-on that's the same but different. Shape of the rooms, lighting, textures, whats missing and not etc.etc.....

Twelve Minutes....

Twelve Minutes caught my eye about two years ago and grew on me with what limited info I was seeing(not looking up info was on purpose); Putting it on my wish-list last year. With it's release it's also available 'free' to play with the Xbox gamepass(Ultimate) which surprised me. So I've been getting hands on with it over the last day or so through that.

Getting hands on with it is a vastly different experience than seeing it in teasers and trailers. More so than I thought it would be.

While it reminds me of the old click and explore games of the late 90's. Broken Sword, Blade Runner etc.... I think my rose tinted nostalgia glasses were too overpowering. My expectations getting in the way of what it is. The way the game plays out is a lot more limited in scale and scope so no running through cities and no reworking clues to make a story play out 999 ways. I both expected that (it is set in an apartment after all) and yet I expected more freedom in what could be done.

There are 6 endings. Some are 'main' endings and others 'alternative'; Which all depends on how you decide on story elements.

The game time loop mechanic is a good premise but if you don't do things the way the story needs to be played out then it punishes resets your current loop. So the loop is both a help and a hindrance. A help to understanding the games story/progression with your characters experience/discoveries carrying over(as it should); And a hindrance in it feeling like a gameplay straight jacket as a gamer playng a game(which it shouldn't).

My previous posts questioning of the games replay-ability was mostly right(in my view). Repeating things can did get frustrating but once you find information/items and use them in a 'proper' order you can move on with both gameplay and understanding the story. There's no way to use items to break the story cycle to 'do' things yourself. You can follow what your supposed to do or do things for the sake of them, just doing them which is pointless; And ultimately usually leads to a reset..... That's when the illusion of freedom is broken(for me). The games loop leads to an inevitability, like the looping itself.
While I get that that can be seen as an immersive thing(your in a loop just like your character and can only find an ending as your character does) I found the process more frustrating than illuminating. Lacking payoff for the hassles. For this game things/items only matter until their part in the story is understood. Then you use and forget them. There's no complication in trying to combine and use items and information in different ways to get 999 different outcomes or to expect someting outside the box.

Doing X and trying to find out more leads to a reset; Doing the same thing but a little differently leads to a reset, repeat, reset, repeat reset..... Try something else, reset, learn something new, trying to find out more leads to a reset; Doing the same thing but a little differently leads to a reset, repeat, reset, repeat reset.....  Till you know enough to get the right order to get the right outcome that moves the story on.

There's only so much fun doing stupid non consequential actions. These turn into more frustrations when your end up doing things out of 'order' and have to reset on purpose to get back on track.

At least there is a fast forward button for conversations.... I used that at lot...

So yea, a rat in a maze. Many dead ends and no way to brute force a hole in the walls.

The time loop gimmick is a classic trope; From Twilight Zone to Star Trek TNG and non sci-fi like the classic Groundhog Day; I guess I thought this game would be 'more' than it has turned out to be.

There are already plenty of guides and video walkthrough's of the game. It's not a long game. Maybe if I bought the game to get value out of it I would 'do more'....Even getting to see and play it for free via Xbox Ultimate I'd rather watch a play-through than do it myself. Frustration is not a compelling factor for me. I think I'd be disappointed if I'd spent money on the game.... Thankfully I didn't.

From my view as a casual gamer... The game really isn't for me; That's my biggest initial gut reaction, hot take, takeaway...... I've gone from wanting the game to realizing that fact. One side of the coin to the other.

Twelve Minutes; It is what it is and I see it how I see it.

Reading up on 'professional' reviews I'm seeing a lot of BS, shill talk. Such as .....
"It veers away from stereotypical point-and-click adventure tropes"
It does in it's shíte! THE FREAKING GAME IS ALLLLLLLL STANDARD POINT AND CLICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beware the bullshít and watch some gameplay first!

Assassin's Creed Origins.... & Ghost Recon Wildlands....

Two more games I still keep installed. Not for any heavy game-play arcs but because they are 'done'/completed games and worth keeping because of the open worlds they 'are', fun and interesting to be in; When the mood takes.

Assassin's Creed Origins(post here

Ghost Recon Wildlands(post here and hard to think it's been four years since this one).

Despite what the real world complications of a game development company is/are; The games produced are ones following an open world formula which really appeals to me. Given both games success and the style of games in general over decades and multiple titles I'm not alone it would seem.

160+ blog posts for Ghost Recon Wildlands.....

Of the two games, I might have/have had 'slightly' more fun in GRW.....

Darkest Dungeon....

Another game I've spent and continue to spend time in on a long term basis(years). Yet another game not so much till recently; Not so much gamplay in it overall this year but it's 'still there', a lurking in the background game on a slow boil that is dipped into every now and again(long-term of long-term).

In taking a look at the Xbox version of the game last month I was constantly reminded (like being nagged) of my PC versions 'state'. It was last December that I had both a resurgence and 'good go' of the game(on PC).

This week has seen me question if I really need to go ahead and 'finish' some of the things. What I feared in that December post was a time sink getting out of hand. However I can say that that fear of a feared time sink and the efforts that would be needed has been the reason making me put off the game.

I've completed it as a game, gotten good amounts of replay-ability out of it. Beaten it, collected trinkets, trained heroes and 'done it all'.... Do I really need to do more 'just' to finalize some other saves....Repeating content I've already done..... There's no simple answer to that. Both Yes and No. Like I said back then, for this game, an incomplete save would be a splinter in the back of my mind(matrix style). It's a catch 22. Maybe time to act rather than procrastinate.

I think I'll have to pare down what is really needed. Not all the trinkets are needed for the NG+ save, not all the buildings need to be built for things to be 'completed'. What really needs to be done is to kill the 3 remaining bosses. I need focus.

I still love the game, I still want to play the game but I've a huge backlog of games and each has a voice so it's a shuffle of fun vs effort and the rewards for each.

Choices, choices.

So I need to do a bit of grinding by running some dungeon fodder through encounters to allow my 'main roster' time to heal. Three bosses from 2 DLC's to be 'done'. I'll consider CoM Buildings and trinket acquisition to be luxury items, not needed but nice to have, not to be chased after. Sounds so simple.

I intended to finish off the NG+ save to clear the way for a long term potter about Radiant save(to be the return to save to really faffed about with.....) I just need to make that happen. What am I like!

UBOAT.... & XO....

Waiting for more 'real' progress from both games.....

Both games have dedicated development behind them. Both games have a strong community to offer pointers and feedback etc etc.

I'd be more 'into' both if there weren't game save wipes after some patches. Such is game development; And for as much content/changes as they add, if I can't keep a save going then I'm going to 'wait' and not 'play' it till it's 'done'.

Waiting for more progress.... And there is progress. Lots of minor tweaks in prep for a big patches. All ongoing but the B129 'major' release should be soon enough.... It will make a difference I hope.

Really glad to see these changes, fixes and new content come out.... But not having a game, 'as a completed game', has made me return to Silent Hunter III (like here, here and here); Not necessarily a bad thing but the promise of what Uboat could/is/could be a great experience and waiting for it is getting long in the tooth... For me. While a lot of games can be 'playable' in their development phases, this is a waiting game and 'just' waiting till things get 'finalized'.

I hope UBOAT is worth the wait.... However long that will be.

---------------------------------------------

Waiting for more progress.... XO has a lot more scaffolding around it than Uboat and feels unbalanced and unfinished on my last play which admittedly was a while ago.

It's been a long time since I last mentioned XO. The last time was the first time. Sept. 2019. Almost 2 years. That's a long time to wait for a game. Not as long as some and like Uboat, XO promises to be a good one when done. I can only imagine the emotional roller-coaster ride that original backers from 2015 must be on.

The game has the promise to deliver an experience akin to Battlestar Galactica. Build a fleet, struggle with resources and avoid/engage with an overpowering enemy no matter where you go. Whats not to like about that concept....

The reality has been a lot of promise and a lot of changes, tweaks and patches... It's work in progress I get that; These are some patches and updates with both small patches and large updates with colossal game changers. But like I've said before there's only so long I can wait for a game to 'be done'. Or be 'done enough' to be solidly playable. Never mind the save wipes on a new patch.

---------------------------------------------

Both games for me now are more permanently 'shelved' from my list of games to 'play'.

I want to play these games.....I'll get back to them at some stage if/when there really is a 'big release'. Both games seem to be 'getting there' soon enough. But for me, for now I can't take the waiting any longer. It's very much a me thing.

So a late spring cleaning.....I think I've spent far too much time waiting and a minuscule amount of time playing these games. Having bought these games I still think of them as an investment, fun to be had backed by the promise of what they could be. Hope springs eternal....

ETS 2....

Despite giving the Iberian DLC a lot of game-time it/the game in general have faded off since. Too many games and not enough time have squeezed it out from regular play.

It seems like a long time since ETS 2 has had an event. The last event was last January(herehere and here); But in fairness it went on for a long time(a good thing). Unless I've really missed something else. Either way maybe I should be glad of that to both not have missed anything(or be ignorant) in ETS 2 and to give time to do other games.

That said I'm still plugging away with it more recently(this week-ish). The recent Idaho potato event looked hilarious. I wish Ireland was on the ETS 2 map and had such an event. Wouldn't be stereotypical at all, done in fun(as they have done for ATS).

I still have a trucking empire well on the go. A career in this game is akin to the old saying that to make money you need money. The company is so large it's raking in the cash so much so that I don't even need to reinvest it. I can't see myself restarting a fresh character; I'm still too busy with the micromanagement of facilities, trucks, drivers and trailers, the bigger the empire the more management.

Steam achievements are a driver(pun intended) for gameplay as well as 'just' general interest/fun of the game. My old achi list(above) is a bit outdated; Which can get messy. Such as the 'Iberian Pilgrimage' achi; I've done one trip but can't remember which city it was from. In doing one from Lisbon last night the achi turned to 2 out of 3 so that was lucky. So either a wasted trip or 3 out of 3 next time!(Wasted trip but not because it was form the wrong city; I crashed and reloading autosaves reset the contract).

Don't get me started on what's needed for the Road to the Black Sea achievements! No damage and no fines...... That's not me!

Slow progress is still progress but very dependent on mood and fun factors never mind time. The achi's are a driving force but not all consuming. I can live with them being incomplete. Not always true for me; Not always true for me in this game but again.... I'm ok with that. I'll try some and if they are too much like work then sod it.

Might just be time to break out the old steering wheel for some casual, non serious, seriousness.

Monday 16 August 2021

Battlefield 1(Xbox)....

Since my last BF1 post I've been enjoying some more matches on Xbox. Going from PC to console and using a controller again(it's been a while) hasn't been as big a trauma as I'd thought it would be. It's still slower method(imho than pc), no matter the way I try to configure it. So I end up either under or over compensating. Which translates to a lack of reaction time when aiming down the sights and flailing bullets wildly when not. The real problem is the movement acceleration for the right stick. So no wonder I've preferred to favor maps with enclosed spaces over open fields. Unless I'm on a vehicle weapon like a tank cannon.

The servers for console seem to have more players no matter the hour, early or late. Maybe I've just been lucky. The PC version has seen a big fall off pre and resurgence since BF V; But still has peaks and troughs of player numbers through the day. It's never fun to wait for a server only to be the only player on it. But it has happened on PC more than Xbox.
As this last week has proved the console version is more susceptible to EA server/multiplayer 'problems'. The mysterious EA servers not available -> Go Online and there are no servers 'thing'. While there are workarounds I found it best to launch the game from the EA Play app on the Xbox rather than the game on Xbox itself.... Just worked out better to get the server lists again.... May work for some, may not work like that for others... Finicky to say the least when it does 'act up". If all else fails then the recent lists from old matches may just save the day for a match fix or two.
In saying that the Xbox BF1 crowd 'seem' the same FPS junkies as on PC, which shouldn't surprise me. More easy access to comms makes them a vocal bunch and they're more 'leetist' in a 'get gud' shouty kind of way.

Like on PC I've had good matches, bad matches and matches where enemy reaction time is 'too accurate'.

While I've missed using some of the fully unlocked items I use on PC; Unlocking them on the Xbox has been a driving motivator for playing as well. Fun objectives to add to the mix!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway all this got me looking at the achievement stat percentages. Good idea;Bad idea. This has the potential to be sarcastic and overly negative... Stats!

Some of the ones I've unlocked and those percentages.....

Less than 20% of players have a medic class at level 2.....
...... It's the medic class, sorely missed when none are about but then again never a 'desirable' class to play for those who want shooty shooty bang bang. The lack of medics has made matches meat grinders. It's noticeable. Not for the better imho. It's common enough to be walked over by 'special' medics who only revive friends and sod every other 'team-mate'. But at least this last week and as I write I've been getting matches with all the medics and revives on the planet! Long may it last.

Less than 18% have an assault class at level 2.....
...... But the shooty shooty bang bang mainstay class; It's what makes a shooter a shooter. It's odd that less than 20% are 2 or above....... Maybe explained by there being so many LMG toting Support players(infinite bullet hose is more preferable?); Can't argue bout that I suppose.

Just over 30% have completed squad orders....
...... As squad orders can be completed like tripping over thin air, that % means that squad leaders are not doing squad orders..... Again noticeable. But something even I avoid doing on PC....
Then again I've not seen many players spot the enemy either, so maybe it's a right shoulder button bad luck voodoo thing.....

Heaven forbid console players use the same buttons for different things..... Multitasking seems to be a no no overall(Or is that my PC leetism coming through, both maybe); The controller layout can get complicated in the heat of combat. I've had moments when trying to do one thing(like spotting) makes the command wheel pop up and I end up calling for a medic, ammo or shouting GO GO GO in text chat. It's not perfect on PC either but on Xbox it's a pain to escape and not get killed. Better to let the button mashing happen get the spot/kill and forget the errant mashing.
As for why I don't seek out that command duty, I'm in it for the action not the people management.

Only (just over) 30% have reached rank 10!!!
...... So much for thinking there's longevity in the game... There're plenty of players listed in matches as being 100+
There's plenty of players in the game regardless.....But I've barely played and am in the 40's. Maybe I'm reading it all wrong.

As the saying goes... "Lies, dámn lies and statistics".

A while back I got one of the newer Series S/X controllers. The slightly smaller size and other minor changes are very welcome. I'm biased as an Xbox head so no surprise there either. But the share button is a massive improvment. I've so many clips and screenshots now! More clip management but better than recording everything as I do on PC so I'm welcoming the less use of disk space.

No Mans Sky....

My journey in NMS has been a roller-coaster for sure. Just like it's development. Still a fact not lost on me but still a lot of nuance to think about. Hard to think now that it's just over it's 5th birthday. A long time and a split second. I'm sure the next update (Frontiers) will bring more good with it.
Where the game has gone from strength to strength my journey ended and ended with mixed emotions. There's been some anger and long-term animosity on my side of playing the game. Mentioning that constantly means it is still 'a thing' in my head. For sure I've waffled enough about that in many a post. I'm not sure today that that was entirely justified. Strong reactions come from strong emotions. Getting back into the game recently made me enjoy feel for the game again. Just by being in it, for no other reason than to see new worlds, catalogue new species. But a revisit isn't a renewed adventure. I'm not sure that will happen the same way again. With everything that 's happened and changed it's not going to be or give the same experience. I've changed as much as the game has. There may yet be a long term middle ground between me and the game.

What has really invigorated my interest for the game of late has been a video series, a from scratch take on the game from a pro. Time to go back to school. Jason Plays does a good job in explaining things in a casual manner. He pumps out a lot of NMS content(as if there was a shortage). While a lot of it is 'open ended' his series of 'fresh starts' is a breath of fresh air to an old dog trying to learn the new tricks. His latest Fresh Start Playlist is enough to make me want to go back to my old save and do more than 'just' the basics.

I've taken my time, learnt some things; Relearnt some more. I've gathered, created and catalogued. Gotten to explore the planets/moons in the system my character is in. I've still a lot to get to know to feel comfortable in leaving a system again.... Although I doubt there can be any hardship in getting 'stuck' in the current iteration of the universe. Where I had a 'fear' of running out of Antimatter/fuel before; Now it's 'easier' in a way to find resources/process them and create what you need. No harm in that. Maybe not so "hard-core" in a survivalist sense but welcome from a casual take on the game. More user friendly.

For now I'm kind of ok with persisting on the most moderate/peaceful/plentiful of plants in the current system....There's more to explore. More to be harvested and gathered. More to understand before moving on. Perhaps gaining the portal glyphs may/could be my new short term/longer term goal for an adventure.

For now, as is said 'a picture is worth a thousand words':
