I've enjoyed my time in the BF1 trial. For this game this time around I'm glad I visited but equally glad I didn't pay to stay. After finishing off the trial portion of the main campaign I do want to play more but as I've said before it's still an expensive game. Having both a great multiplayer and solo play element is as good as you can get. Even saying that I'll be waiting a while until I see this game on sale before I start looking into a purchase. If I'd been in the game since the start I'd be very happy but again like I said in another post, there are so many "geared" up players with items and experience it's hard to break in and that leads to frustrations.
BF1 has still got the same problems as other battlefield games and shooters in general. Like starting a map/game type at peek user time and being the only person or team there. Or entering a random pug match and facing off against a 'guild' team that are both well versed in the game since day one and on their own voice comms.
Being a longer term Battlefield fan on the Xbox 360/One I have no idea why I have stayed with a console based shooter over the pc versions for so long. Even with the old Eve Online shooter Dust 514 I used a keyboard and mouse on the PS3. My constant avocation of keyboard and mouse over a controller for shooters is especially strong after this current trials experiences.
At least the future is bright for using a direct keyboard and mouse with the XboxOne. But that leads to other concerns and highlights those players already using keyboard and mouse through alternative devices.
I dont' mean to sound very doom and gloom, this is a great game, once you go with the flow on maps that are popular then the good mayhem starts. Have a team of friends to enjoy it with is a true game changer.
However there is still an element of twitch shooter to the WW1 aesthetic. I am bewildered at how some people are so accurate at such long distances with a pistol etc. Or just so quick and accurate with their shots to a degree that seems superhuman.
I am neither superhuman nor quick and accurate, being a returning player to the BF series it did still take a while to get used to things again. Not to mention the learning curve for match type and classes, let alone moving from Xbox to pc. But it was fun and when it wasn't I bailed and tried again.
So rather than waffle on further here is a vid of a match were I had a better than average experience. Some decent moments if I do say so myself. Along with some truly noobish maneuvers....
