Eve Valkyrie.... Go buy Everspace instead....

The latest news in the world of Eve Valkyrie is a promotion of the expansion Warzone, due out in 10 days time (26th Sept). The expansion brings with it a non-VR version of the game. That fact surprised me.

TL;DR    -    Go buy Everspace instead....

FYI - waffling rant incoming....

I've no real contact with the game beyond a friend who players it on his PS4, VR headset and all. As dedicated as he is to the game he says there it is repetitive and it does get grindy. I still have a mystery code for a Valkyrie ship of some sort. But best to mention the mystery code later in relation to CCP.

When I read the Dev release the first thing that popped into my head was "what does a game based on a specific gimmick really become when you remove the gimmick". A "poor man's" version of itself?

CCP is always on the make for cash and that was the second thought that popped into my head as I read the blog. CCP cash grab. As the dev blog is only going to be really read by Eve Online players they are looking to cash grab players of Eve, as if they don't get gouged enough from Eve Online.

Looking back at what I've said about the game before I don't see myself any closer to getting it now that it's gonna have a non VR version. The VR nature of the game was the selling point right?

With a gimmick removal in one hand and a hefty price in the other (with options for microtransactions) CCP want to embrace new players into the game. That smells like a cash grab....

Is the removal of VR a way for them to boost the playerbase? Have they seen a drop in numbers?
There are comments like this and like this that ask about player numbers, but what really catches my eye are stats like this that look so low they almost look fake...

Valkyrie is a multi platform game, and I would say that the console stats alone well outdo anything on PC. Gamer interest in the versions and player retention are I'm sure a much larger debate that would need details from community members. I'm suire the changes are also part of the current decline of VR and it's game player expectations.

Valkyrie got a lacklustre review on launch and the reviews say it's a game that has a starting wow factor before the reality of gameplay sinks in. A game with a gimmick, VR. You really need to be into a PvP dogfighting sci-fi shooter to have been an owner of the game to stay with it. I think they really are grasping to squeeze cash out of the playerbase. Seeing as that playerbase is dedicated and small that seems wrong to me. Good business for CCP, bad for the gamer.
That's the part of CCP I really, really, really dislike. CCP has a track history of screwing over the playerbase, it's customers. The same playerbase they say is at the heart of the games they develop. A playerbase they use as a selling point.
As a game with it's gimmick stripped away, it to me is a lesser PvP game when compared to other PvP games worth playing

A dogfighting sci-fi shooter that has exceptional PvE single player and longevity in gameplay. One that does not fall flat on it's face when there are no other players online; Then Everspace is a literal blast. Available on PC (Steam and GoG), as well as consoles. It may have no PvP but it's cheaper, has no microtransactions, has a VR mode and continual updates not to mention a good community as well.
