Battlefield 1(Xbox)....

The last two weeks(or so) I've found myself playing a lot more BF1 on Xbox.

While I'm all in on the PC version there are two main reasons at play it on Xbox now.

First off I find the console version of PC games that little bit different as to be a 'new' experience. I've seen this over the last 'while'(years), on and off with Star Trek Online. So access to the base BF1 game via game-pass was an 'of course' I'll try it.

Secondly my brother in law is big into previous Battlefield, Cod and multiplayer console shooters in general. Talking recently he had gotten BF1 and was looking for more team members.... But it seems BF V is getting in the way as he and a friend seem to favor it... So my thinking is maybe playing more BF1 and sharing some gameplay could change a mind or two...
Meh, there's a lot of minor considerations in the mix. He like another mate of mine whos is also easily distracted by gameplay shiny things(Feet first into a game only to jump feet first into another game a second later).

Getting back to a multiplayer online shooter with a controller is a return to my Xbox 360 days of Battlkefield 4 and CoD Modern Warfare and Black Ops; But back I am, bad aim and all (aim overcompensation).

Aside from my getting used to things again I've been making progress overall. Fun is being had.

With the game being the 'base' game I was starting to miss my earned and unlocked loadouts/weapons from being a 'high level' PC player. Not a whole lot as there is fun is being low level and having less to work with, making do. That said the biggest loss was in map rotations. While there are plenty of 'base' game map servers; Getting the 'server no longer has content you can play' got old fast.
But, synchronicity was there last week, a favorable sale for the game including DLC/season pass made the choice to buy easy. €7.99 can't argue with that.

With the purchase the game has literally opened up. Access to servers running all the maps and all the modes, all the time.

One problem remains, display lag.

I have a busy desk, since the Xbox one app allowed it I've steamed all gameplay to PC via it since; Replacing the 'console monitor' on my desk. In place of it I setup my laptop in a more permanent way(cable management etc.); But getting back into multiplayer on the console means the 2 millisecond delay in streaming is a real killer to my gamepaly. So a HDMI cable back on the console and connected to the laptop HDMI in....Sorted the problem.
I'd mess about with connecting the cable to my main PC monitors alternative input but then Windows throws a hissy fit and shunts all the desktop icons/content to the second screen and it's a mess I can live without; Even if it sorts itself out once the input signal is 'gone'. Simpler to use the laptop and keep the PC 100% usable.

I can still use the app to stream to PC and capture that footage(no external capture device, can't justify it, nor splurge). That has it's own problems as the millisecond delays kicks in; It gets a bit weird in playback, skips and jumps as well as audio desyncing. Still it's a way to capture some footage and still get flawless output to the alternative screen(laptop) for actual gameplay enjoyment/viewing.

All that said I'm not taking the game as seriously as I do the PC version. It's a fun distraction via the console experience. As only consoles can. Like aimed mode being a softer visual than on PC where it's always the same sharpness. It's a 'console thing'(trick?) that reminds me of playing the original Operation Flashpoint and then playing the Original XBox release version. There are just certain things that do and don't change visually and with gameplay when crossing platforms. Some things never change; Same but worlds apart.

P.S.
Yea the laptop is still in use even after complaining about it over 3 years ago..... Still doing it's job and still capable.

Battlefield 1....

It's nice to get a change. But I've lost count of how many weeks it's been with the 'Back to Basics' theme.... It's definitely taken the p*ss out of being a weekly! Month 422 of the Back to Basics saga, a long time ago in a weekly far far away I used to be able to use a machine gun. *Bangs head off desk*

Meanwhile in console land 'Back to Basics' is a thing there as well. Oddly enough the same things happen there to 'noob' me as on PC. The more things change the more they stay the same....

BF 1....

The latest theme of promoted matchmaking for BF1 is all based on larger maps with hilly terrain.

The hills are indeed alive, with the screams from both sides as they get strafed and exploded  by large numbers of planes, blimps, small tanks, large tanks and horses etc. It's something to behold, why battlefield is worthy of the name. The scale is large, with lots of skirmish's happening around the main engagement of forces. Land and air. It's easy to be both overwhelmed on all sides or spawn and be miles away from the enemy.

As a player who identifies more with the marksman medic class, the hill theme sounds like it should be ideal times; But I've spent longer as an assault in these matches. Not a bad thing, variety an all, but its getting me killed more than if I was doing my longer distance shots.

At least this won't last forever.... The next theme could be a game changer....

BF 1....

A match that ends in loss is not always a defeat. I can live a with a good game result.

BF1....

Been a while since I looked up details about streaming etc but only getting around to testing it out in the last week or so. Not sure if I can ever do a 'scheduled' stream; A schedule seems forced, I don't want to play a game forcibly.... Even doing it with no commentary. Although with me playing BF1 that's probably a good thing; The profanity I tend to spew would not be good. Then again that's considered entertainment to some.....

It wasn't a good night of matches, gave as good as I got most of the time; But it tended to go downhill overall.

There were some enjoyable "return the favour" moments....

Unfortunately I didn't save the footage after streaming so all I ended up with was the automatic upload. Which on download was of poorer quality, but for a short edit like the "sniper revenge" clips it'll do..... Lessons learned on all fronts.

BF1....

The new theme(challenge?) of the week is all about horses. It's not incredibly noticeable in matches. It's not like every vehicle is replaced with a horse. But I have taken down riders(along with a horse or two). Anyway I've stayed mainly as Assault in my recent matches, I've been enjoying the class a lot more; With a splash of Medic and support when needed.

BF1 is still on a low low price and the premium pass is free for another few weeks if not all of October (Store link). Never a better time to hop into the game and get all the content for €4.99.

BF1....

I've been having a few good matches of late. Strange how that ebb and flow goes.

One match in particular was going well last night, as a medic in multiple tanks. Just the way it works out. In the end though I was disconnected... Another frustration that happens. Fun while it lasted. Medic in a can!

BF1....

BF 1's class's are different from previous BF games and because of that my preferences have changed. BF4 saw me roaming a lot as a sniper. For BF1 I've naturally gravitated towards being a medic
It's a class I really like not only because of the revives and heals but I get to effectively shoot the enemy(most of the time) with one of my favourite weapons in the game. Akin to a BF4 dedicated marksman rifle. The Mondragón.  It's a class that ticks all the box's and allows me to feel like I'm contributing in many way's.

So for over a year I've played the game mainly as a medic, ignoring the assault class, rarely playing the sniper and falling back on the support only when a match seems to need one. Or rather when my play-style needs that firepower against planes. Like a medic the support class does a lot to help. Providing ammo and suppression fire. Like a medic it can be a class that is flexible. So I've spent a bit of time forcing convincing myself to stop picking the medic and choose the support class instead.

Practice makes perfect right?

BF1....

Definitely feeling back in the BF1 groove. I'm enjoy my time in game for now, until I get a bout of ass whoopings again.

I've found myself in a lot of vehicles the last few games, a great way to help level up a class; It's a pity I stayed as a medic.

BF1....

A medics work is never done....

BF1....

I've had nothing but horrifically bad matches in Battlefield 1 the last two day's. No matter what time of day. Between teams absolutely pasting my side, lag, back luck, all of the above etc. etc.

Best to step away and leave it for a day or two.... Three or four....

BF1....

I just noticed in my last BF1 video, I revived a player called    Dublin1944

I remember the name because I'm Irish and his name has Dublin in it. A very 'oh look at that' kind of moment; And because the first time I saw that name I killed him(or her) in the previous video

No idea who you are but if it's any consolation I died while reviving you this time round!

No hard feelings, Karma, circle of death and revive etc.....

BF1....

Not that I expect any great K/D ratio but some matches I'm amazed I hit anything at all...
No wonder I like being a medic, something else to be(good at?) doing other than pulling a trigger....

BF1....

The last four day's has seen a horrendous amount of super fast and overly effective teams of players dominating everything.

So the ol kill/death ratio's have been thrown out the window (i.e. K4/D24) and I've left more games than I've completed. Any chance I've gotten to get a kill I'm immediately pounced on by 2 flying tanks, 4 planes and a battalion of tea bagging foot soldiers. They are quick and vengeful in ways only a paragraph of expletives and sacrilege can start to describe. How they do all that and type a diuretic flow of abuse is beyond me. There's no fun in being gang abused like that.
The only reason I can think of for the influx(return) of players flooding the game like this, has to be the recent patch....? The sooner they tire of abusing players and bugger off the better.

BF1....

Fun to be had in the snow both outdoors and virtual. Another match from BF1, I think I acquitted myself favorably.

I like playing as a medic due to the survivability of healing yourself. But having a scoped rifle does allow for some satisfying shots...

BF1....

Another one for the sake of editing.... The clips below were taken from a horrendous match for the side I was on. It was an ugly one sided affair.... At least I was able to 'help' as a medic.....

BF1....

Being away from home I miss it's solid internet connection.
I've wanted to post a long play version of a BF1 battle or two. But needing something to do and with the limits of circumstance I took a bit of a hacksaw to one video and cut it down to some "action" bits. Not that it's impressive gameplay in any way but I'll post if below. The bad thing (besides my gameplay) is that I didn't' realize the exported video was a lower than normal resolution. That error got double downed on when I didn't save the project. All is lost bar the exported video....
The good thing is that the lower resolution made it a small file to upload over the crap broadband...
