Battletech....

Double heat sinks you say?! You have my undivided attention!

Battletech....

Travelling around the periphery of the game universe has lead to some interesting events.

After having a Flashpoint encounter with Mogan Kell, I was surprised to get a random space event, a message from him. But like all events in the game, each event is ignorant / independent of any previous contact.

Given the key word in the event was "Lost Tech". I didn't mind.
I chose the option that put me all in on the deal.
And I was rewarded with my much wanted Double Heat Sinks!!

Worth it!!!!

I am now very happy with my Atlas.

Epic....

Another storefront another launcher to host games.... "sigh".

But if you get Subnautica free..... well that is kind of worth it... If you don't have the game in the first place....

Free is free....

Two games are currently free to claim....

Battletech....

Mercenaries! Battletech inception.

I've always liked this popup event:

DayZ....

DayZ, a game I've kept an eye on for a while. Admittedly I've not checked up on it in years at this stage, thinking it was all but defunct. It's good to see the game get an official release date. From the trailer it looks better than I've seen it before. As for if I'll get it.... At this stage I think not.

As much as you can PvE, roleplay and do survival in the game, it's open world random players that alter the gameplay intensity.

DayZ arma mod begot DayZ standalone, which begot H1N1 which begot PubG which begot Fortnite which begot....which begot......etc.....etc... Games, like music, have a lot of lineage, some more forgotten than others. Time will tell.

GRW....

It's been a long time since I last pottered about with Ghost recon. The Special Operations 3 update is due out next week. I like the addition of a photo mode and a new PvE mission is always welcome.
But  I doubt I'll be doing much more than a quick return to do the mission and bail again...
Carbon Meister did a good video on what the update seems to hold:

STO....

Yesterday saw the start of Q's Winter Wonderland. I've done the "Fastest Game on Ice" daily race twice now so have gained 80 vouchers.

I thought there was an initial mission that would give a large chunk of vouchers to get you started but maybe I'm thinking of a different event.
Just another 23 daily races to get the remaining vouchers for the event ship.

I took the opportunity to do The Kramp'Ihri mission, not one I'd normally repeat but it adds to the flavour. I may do it again.

This years additions to the vendor are along the usual lines, new coats, jumpers, modules, weapons, abilities and pets. My main did get the Frost and Black versions of the jackets.

As well as the new pet, the Tortured Elf.

It's also the final few day's of the featured TFO, I've been doing that for the daily rewards.

There's also been the R&D pack sale and potential for a T6 ship.
I splashed out 2400 Zen for three of the packs which gave 12 chances of a ship. None did.
I'm no longer tempted to do another one!

Two Point Hospital....

Nice!

Xbox BF1....

With some slight novelty at the idea of starting from scratch and with the memory of my first match going so well (when the game was given on Games with gold). I thought I'd try another match tonight.

Not a bad one but not a great one either. There seems to be more leeway with shots on console. Going back to a multiplayer shooter with a controller is horrendous. Aiming with a controller is a really, really, really bad idea. The novelty wore off quick!

Battletech: Flashpoint....

While I may have waffled to much in my post yesterday; There's nothing like a bit of video to really show a flashpoint. With it's consecutive combat/damage carry over(part one and two).

Doing this flashpoint showed up another funny quirk of the game. This flashpoint had me make a decision on weather to claim a Star League era mech(a griffin). The story line is big on if you take the mech or not. I chose to maintain my companies honour, stick with the contract and leave the mech.
Only, I completed the flashpoint and was granted the mech as one of the additional rewards; Like it was just another piece of salvage of no great value or significance.

I can live with that kind of "quirk".

Maybe the stolen mech would have been a better or rare variant of the random rewarded mech?

A new patch out today (v1.3.1) has a line dedicated to this mission:
"Flashpoint: Fixed an issue that caused the user to gain reputation with House Liao and lose reputation with the Pirates after completing the Branch B mission of the Criminal Minds flashpoint."
I've not noticed this but I was aiming for gaining rep with Liao by destroying my rep with pirates so I think I'd have overlooked this regardless.

Anyway on to the video. Battletech: Flashpoint (Criminal Minds), all three parts:

I suggest increasing the video settings(if not already) to help with reading the text....

Playstation Classic....

I've read a good few reviews about the PS mini classic. While I'd agree with most on how bad it's emulation mode settings are (and game lineup). It appears you can change settings and add in the likes of scan lines..... That's news worth sharing, for anyone who actually got it and wants to change things....

STO....

This seems interesting; I might splash some of my free Zen on this....

Battletech: Flashpoint....

I'm enjoying the overall improvements to the game that come with the expansion.

While not specifically listed there does seem to be big improvements in the games graphics. There seems to be more aura effects. All for the better. It's a good thing.

The mini story-lines are a great way to enhance long-term play. But it's not perfect.
One flashpoint choice allowed me to destroy a small faction. I then met a member of that faction on a planetary encounter/event (bumping into a stranger in a market). The conversation with the stranger was all talk about how I saved the faction, and how thankful he was....
I'm somewhat of a semi role play kind of gamer but not even this discrepancy can make me dis the game. The game is good and I can live with it.

As for the three new mech's in the game. The Hatchetman and The Crab are useless to me. Neither mech do it for me. I get that the hatchet can be fast, has a melee bonus and that both crab and hatchet bring death as up close killers. But it's that very nature of getting close and/or fast melee that's very far away from my comfort zone. This may change as I experiment with gameplay. I'd rather go for The Crab as a flamer before the hatchetman's melee. But there are other mechs in the game to choose before it. These new mech's are niche, all down to play-styles and tastes.
The third, the Cyclopes is somewhat interesting. Better weapons for it's class make it another niche mech that could grow on me. But not in my end game. Maybe on a replay of the mid campaign....

The reputation system is now truer to the word in practice, favour one side over another and stats go up and down. Ally with a faction and then you really will be in the weeds. For my play-through I've been straddling the mid line. Setting my sights on smaller annoyances. So working for larger factions against smaller organisations, mercs, pirates and planetary governments etc. In that role the free worlds league seems to be the best area of operations.

Most missions/flashpoints decrease your rep by -12 (it varies) for the force you face.

I've read that the best faction to ally with would be the Capellan's due to the larger number of both planets and therefore stores in their space. I've got the rep to ally with a few factions but I'll walk the line for now. Siding with the Capellan house Liao will make me an enemy of everyone else etc. etc.

I'm not that impressed with the Blackmarket stores. Nothing I couldn't have salvaged or bought at a lower price elsewhere.

Some flashpoints are worth the faction crossover. For story if nothing else.

I may not want a pilot in The Claw, or even pilot it myself but I want it in storage, just because.
I'm a collector.

Other flashpoints I've completed which say they have lost tech rewards, have no lost tech rewards at all. Which is a disappointment. Lost tech to me is a shiny weapon or mech variant, not a computer guidance system.

I needs me my destroyed double heat sinks back..... I so miss them. I'd pay quiet a lot for them!!!
My Atlas doesn't feel the same without them.....

New achievements mean I might do a restart of a campaign sooner rather than later.....

Hitman 2....

Decembers roadmap is looking interesting.... For the holiday "surprise" and elusive target.

BF 1....

I had my first BF1 match today since getting back home, it turned out to be a good one.

One interesting moment had me both confused and weirded out when I respawned right behind a pack of enemies as they respawned. Very much a brain fart derpy encounter on my part.....

Mechwarrior 5....

Mechwarrior 5: Mercs will see a Sept. 10, 2019 release date(Mech con). Nice!!

With so much Battletech gameplay via it's expansions by then; I'm sure my Inner Sphere appreciation will be waning. But being put in a cockpit of a mech will re-inspire the senses.

Still.... Urge for clan mech/tech rising.

Gaming....

Don't mind if I do.....
