Great looking pics...

This subreddit lists some great work done by artists on deviant art. I've been a fan of deviantart.com for years yet haven't seen half these pics when doing eve art searches on the site.

Rant of the day/week/month/year......

It must be the heat and the fact that I'm stuck in work but here comes a rant....

I have a pet peev when people say they are "bored".
Specifically it bugs me when someone starts doing something then stops doing it and says "I'm bored".
Not in a hip adult way (tired of doing X lets go do Y) but in the 5 year old way.

Why do an activity to be bored with it. Did the person really not think the idea through ahead of time.
I'm not talking about someone who is doing an activity for the first time either.

What really gets my goat is if it happens during an online game, the way people have the need to say it to others.I see it a lot in Wow, but it happens in general offline / real world life all too often.
Do people really expect to do an activity and be entertained by others just because they want it that way.

Take Eve online, I log in on a few characters and do a few daily things with them in repetition, and if something is happening that takes a while to complete or I have to wait, I'll surf the web or try a quick match of BF4 on the xbox ( all at the one desk ).
I won't shout out "I'm bored" in local.
If you did that in Eve you would be quickly trolled, probably tricked into something and ganked.

Even in wow if you are waiting you can alt tab or keep it in windowed mode while doing anything else.

Maybe its all about attention seeking.....

Mr Dictionary says this about "Bored":

noun

a dull, tiresome, or uncongenial person.

a cause of ennui or petty annoyance: repetitious tasks that are a bore to do.
So the first line is a person saying "I'm Bored"  ( a person is bored )
The second  is a task that causes annoyance, a person doing asteroid mining and saying "this is boring". ( an activity is boring )

A big difference between the first and second that boils down to the person and the task.

I think the first line best describes what I mean for this blog entry, a dull, tiresome, or uncongenial person. a person that says "bored" honestly not thinking it strange (thinking is involved a lot).

What can I do about a person who says they are "bored"..... nothing really. I wouldn't waste my time repeating this blog entry or even pointing them to it.
They have chosen the activity, maybe they want the attention of others. All I can really see them getting is trolled by the people around them.

Anyway if I come across a person proclaiming they are "bored", I'll be muttering muppet under my breath then do what I've always done, ignored them.

On a side note I had declined the dude that applied to join my alts corp, no tricks or hassle just a plain decline. Am sure it was an alt of one of the pod killers the other week but on the other hand it could have been a spam application by a player in system.

It's aliiiiiiiiiive.... almost....

Interesting Dust 514 post here:
http://dustmercs.blogspot.ie/2014/04/npe-template-iron-wolf-saber.html#more

I need to find out more about the CPM and whats being really done in the Dust Meta. It's just so hard to find.

A good vid I came across:

Mini update....

My dust skill points bonus has reset as I have been missing the daily login…. I dont' see myself getting 8 day's in a row again not even for one match.
I'll let the skill points accumulate and some weekend get into it to see if having a mill or two extra SP helps. Guess I'll need more isk to buy skill books at that stage so that my be a driving force to play further. The keyboard and mouse test is still due...

In looking into getting my Minmatar alt something to do I downloaded a copy of the Minmatar epic arc guide by Jowen Datloran, his guides are great. As is this one.
I did the first mission as it was a simple handin that gives a reward of 6 mill and a bonus of 1 mill from a item I could have gotten in space but that I bought on the market for 150k - nice rewards.  I think if I do any more I'll have to get a main or a friend to pop along as well.....

Docking my main alt ove teh weekend I saw this sight…..

5 Little Nightmares all in a ..... cross

Morning reading.....

A few things got my attention in my morning rounds of the Eve meta.

T2 BPO's:

With getting the patch last night I really liked the new background for the logon screen, a nice person decided to extract it:

There was info about this fighter:

This new hull looks really nice.

And this very slick looking hull, looks amazing, first time for me to see it but I do hope it makes it into the game at some stage.

Current Dust 514 info....

Having a look on the web it's hard to find current Dust 514 blogger's.  I was able to find recent video uploads on youtube from this user:

I think I really need to get a mouse and keyboard for controlling this game properly ;-p

The API question....

My morning reading has two blogs with entries about the API and are interesting.

http://targetcaller.blogspot.ie/2014/04/boredom-and-api.html

http://indecisivenoob.blogspot.ie/2014/03/api-security-blessing-and-curse.html

When anyone talks about the API keys I always have the image of this cartoon in my head:

Here is my waffling two cent's worth......

It's essentially true, Eve and other MMO's are drastically different on how a player will join a corp/guild.
This is mainly caused by the non consensual pvp nature of the game but the API key is the big question and based around assets.

Apart from API checks, an Eve characters freely available employment history alone can be held against them, too many corps in a short time "obviously" means they are up to "no good".   Like all things it takes a little intelligence to look into those corp's and see if that really is true, but most employers will just look quickly and say no if they see too many.

As for the API's, I stand on the side of not giving FULL API key entries.
I won't give the full code but this is not due to me looking to spy, steal or awox (awox) other players/corps This may sound incredibly silly to a lot of eve players but I hate the principle of it. The thought of the information being used, scrutinised and potentially used against me is not what I want.

I have no problem with giving a complete character key on my alts but I'm not going to hand over all the information about all my characters on my account (my alts are just that, alternative characters I want to do specific things with regardless of the mains).
While the corps and alliances will be wailing about security issues / spies and awoxers, I really think that the game would be better served by only having character api keys. It is supposed to be a sandbox, a dark dangerous universe after all.

Before getting a third account I had two characters on my first account. My main, and my main alt.
I was very happy having my main being the goodie two shoes, clean nosed hi-sec carebear. So I created the main alt to be the pvp/null alt, doing all the things I didn't want to do on my main (like endanger him).

The thought of applying to a corp with my main alt and needing to give full details about my main was just not going to happen.
I am picky about what corp's I want to join. I've been in convo's with friends in game while part of recruitment chats and it usually is comical. One friend in particular is very enthusiastic about stuff and will give his full key will nilly to anyone who asks. I'm the opposite, and in our private chats during these recruitment's I usually comment on what the recruiter really means, perhaps very cynically.

My current null sec alt selected his corp because they were 0% tax and part of a sov holding alliance ( I wanted to use PI ).
I was accepted in. No API check at all and no interview, a few quick questions on my first login as a member and that was it.
The corp had no assets at the time and is based around ratting and mining.
The last few month's have seen the corp develop a little and get a POS up as well as a station corp hanger. Corp members have donated for these.
All these are strictly setup so that only people that have contributed have access. As it should be.  API keys have nothing to do with stopping a person taking anything.
I donated a lot of BPC's for corp use. I have access to the bpc's.
The simple fact of setting security rights on containers in hangers is a good useful tool.  API has nothing to do with it.
The corp leadership recently asked for a voluntary api key not for the corp but under pressure from the alliance. I gave the character api.
In this situation I do not see how a full api let alone a character api would be useful to them.
The corp is protected by being smart with it's assets.  If I were to awox I'd be hounded out after getting a cheap kill or two.... then what.... that char would be blacklisted by any other prospective corp I wanted to join.

Even an API given by a "spy" an alt on an account that was totally separate from anything else and used as an infiltrator. API definitely doesn't help there. In short any person who whats to really spy well is never going to be shy about giving a full API.

My alt that lost the Tempest recently is in it's own corp and only has 2 other members, alts of friends.
I had tried to get this corp off the ground before but was unsuccessful.

I have not advertised this corp for recruitment nor interacted with anyone who might consider wanting to join in a long long long time. I've just been doing some missions with a friend, very low key.
A few days ago I was surprised to have gotten an application to join by a person saying they wanted in "before they get bored and leave eve".
Oh really.
First thought in my head was that's an alt of one of the dudes that got in on the kill mail looking to awox. Second thought was why ask to join a corp that only has a few players by saying you want to interact with people. If you want to interact with people go join RvB. The character applying has a few other previous corps under his belt and all seem to be 50 characters plus in size. Why want to join a 4 person corp.
Third, the corp has a dedicated chat channel.... I've never seen this dude in it to asking questions.....

Anyway I dont' think I'd get a full API key from him.... maybe I should ask and then ask for a few million in processing fee's... then screw him over in some other way like moving gear for him to a new mission area that just see's me take that gear.... now that's just taking advantage.

API keys dont' help

Well said....

Jita this weekend, more skills being split & some new ships incoming.....

The Jita system (and surrounding system's) will see the annual event "Burn Jita" this weekend.

http://evenews24.com/2014/04/22/cfc-annouches-date-burn-jita-3/

I for one will not be doing my usual weekend sales there.

I've also read in an alliance mail that there will be a skill split in the next expansion.
Combat Drone Operation is being split into a light and medium version.
I have my second main and main alt busy training combat Drone Operation to level 5, this will save about a weeks worth  (depending on implants) of training time.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=334833

Although I only watched about 20 minutes of the Pre fanfest stream last night there was an interesting comment on reddit. 6 new ships incoming!?! http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/23vzu9/ccp_stream_6_new_ships_for_summer/

"Accidents" happen......

I've had problems with my laptop last night, the charger decided to stop working. As I hadn't noticed it until the 10% battery warning I had little time to finish what I was doing let alone to copy the screenshots from wow and eve that I wanted to post.  I have some from my pc but the others will have to wait for a bit of a retro post.

Eve saw some events happen besides the usual PI/POS and skill updates.

My main saw a milestone pass, 60 Million SP. This is bitter sweet as I think the Main alt has about 25 Million that would have been on top of that 60 if I'd not split the training.

My null alt is back to training, I just have him placed at the last hi-sec station before his null home.I've left him in the +3 implant clone. I want to train up some skills over the next few days that will allow him to learn the books he has in station. My plans for this alt and the main alt have changed again, and as I have some a fair amount of time left on the account I'll use this to skill up the main alts cruise missile skills to V and get the specialisation to 3 or 4. This will still give time to get the null alt a bit of training. One that's done both these characters will prob be moved to my main account.

My null alts PI has been neglected as I can only do so much with him not in the same system as the PI.

My friend got his Hyperion. He splashed out on T2 rig's and the new skin that makes it the special edition. A good solid t2 fit was added along the lines of his preferred play style (seat of pants flying) dependent on cap boosters.

The new shiny
He did about 2 missions in it before I joined him on my Minmatar alt in the tempest. We did a mission really well. It was quiet a team up we had going. And here is where things go awry.

We went into another mission which was going really well. I got to destroy a structure that dropped an implant, listed in my cargo as having an isk value of 18 Million! nice :) but we were gate crashed by a ninja.

I don't usually become aggressive when this happens. Tears only egg them on and I dont' do that anyway.
What usually happens is I ask my friend to pull in drones, collect the loot from the MTU, pickup the MTU and warp off for a 5 or ten minute break. Not on that night.... on that night I decided to destroy the wrecks. So i targeted them.

Now would probably be a good time to mention that my alt and my friend are in different corp's. you think that being fleeted would make shooting the wrecks "we" created ok.... but no, my lil alt shooting the wrecks made the tempest go boom via the always helpful hi-sec security forces Concord.

Yes I had Concorded myself. Concordokken was mine.

The ninja seeing this must have laughed himself silly. He was quick to target me and get in on the concord kill mail. The kill mail listed a mission BS rat, Concord and him. I'm sure he won't be flouting that mail too far. Just another part if the isk / kill / death ratio's.

Then with the limited engagement timer on he held my pod and tried to convo me several times.
I dont' do the ransom convo cack so rejected all convo's from him. I ignored the last one and used the time to note the implants the clone did have.

At this stage and with blood in the water the other ninja loot/salvagers in system showed up, inc. a T2 logi.
I've always suspected that they would back each other up and had logi... now I can see it's true.

I think I was about 5 minutes into watching an episode of Vikings when they podded me.

Still in fleet with my friend, he was taking a break before going back in to finish off the mission.
I decided to wait out the timers before correcting some of the damage done.

I was down a fitted tempest. A clone + implants & security statues due to my actions.
I was grateful to the loot faeries that the implant I had picked up in mission was destroyed when the ship blew :) My friend was good enough to sell the mission loot he had in station and give back the isk he owned me along with some parts to help rebuild.

Anyway first thing I did was to upgrad my clone, with one implant in station I could use I went to Rens to replace the rest.

I was about 26 jumps away form the mission area my friend was so I took some time and jumped back there while still watching the episode of Vikings.... ( Season 2 episode 7, best episode of the season I think ).
While doing this I decided to put in a petition about the action of shooting my own fleets mission wrecks and getting concorded for it. If you dont' ask you wont' know....

Once I'd reached the station we were based out of I decided to pack up shop and haul the remnants of gear back the 26 jumps to the alts home station. While doing this I logged my other account and hopped on as my second main to do a few more missions.

Once we were done I parked up the Minmatar alt and redistributed the alt's gear into the various station containers.

The following day I was surprised to find that I had a reply from a GM.
The ship had been returned to me! The implants from the clone had been returned also!! And the sec status had been reversed!!!

I was in delighted shock!!!!  What a fantastic turnaround!!!!

The returned ship was only a partial fit, it was a resurrected ship given only the cargo and fit that had been destroyed with it. I refitted from what I had in station.
The cargo included the implant that I had picked up earlier in the mission before being blown up! So I flew it to Rens, sold the implant, got 18Mill for it. Used the isk to then  finish off the fit. What a sweet ending to a story.

So with all that alt's gear back in the main home station along with the returned ship etc I was happy to call the alt/Tempest experiment a win. I'll leave that alt parked up until I find a new project to do.

The day after I got the tempest back, we went missioning again. He was in his new shiny Hyperion, I was with my second main in a Tengu.

All was going fine until the aggro switched to him as he aligning, he was webbed/scrammed and doing a cap booster reload when the dps seemed to peak. The wrong place at the wrong time. I saw a large explosion and then a pod on grid. There is not need to repeat what was said in chat, you can guess.

After the initial shock of the "incident" he was remarkably calm about it. He jumped back into his Dominix and carreid on as if nothing had happened.

It had a short life but it did burn brightly.

Because I've been watching the Vikings series I've been listening to a lot of the music used for it, I think it's worth sharing.... Løyndomsriss, Heimta Thurs, Ingwar, Helvegen & Solringen all by Wardruna

General gaming over the last while....

I've been doing less and less Dust 514, maybe 3 matches in the last 5 day's. I might leave the SP build up for a month and then allocate them.

My Battlefield 4 matches have increased, I'm getting a few matches done a day, usually around the 11PM mark. This seems to be an ideal time or maybe has more people of a similar level of play that make it more enjoyable for me.

I got to give the last Xcom Enemy Within mission another bash, clearing it from my last save only took a few minutes. The ending is a minor variation of the original but seems better in my minds eye. Glad I can say I finished it. Not so sure I will replay it from scratch. I may revert to a saved game just before the end point.

Wow has seen a good bit of play. My trend in not getting the latest gear is continuing. I've been doing some alt boost's and been boosted a lot of the last week.
Alts have been levelled, professions skilled up and general progression toward 90 being done....
The 90's have only been doing the daily farming, professions and minor dungeons/raids, getting gear seems to be a halting point in moving forward. Random number generator hex.

Transmog's have been changed on an ongoing basis, it's easy to faff about with things like that.

The latest charges have been to my Hunter (again), my Rogue (again) and my lower level 67 ish Priest.

My hunter tweaked again.
Rog some more...
Witchy priest
Spoken of a while ago, but here is the mount drop.
I've been boosting and boosted by a friend in Ulduar. Our Paladin's are hunting for the Ulduar fragments of val'anyr in 25 man mode. This will lead onto a large quest chain that my friend knows all about. My other half has joined in on some of the fun to get transmog's.
We're farming it, getting alternative tactics for quicker runs and achievement hunting to boot. It's been fun but a little tedious at times, when small things cascade into "an unfortunate series of events" it can be either fun to survive or recriminating to think about. I know the rewards will be worth it once all is done and dusted

Weekend that was.... week that is.....

I had great intentions on what to do with my pilots in Eve last weekend but all progressed in the usual PI/POS/skills manner without much else happening, the week has progressed in a similar fashion.

Orca + odds and ends skills.....
The Main Alt is a few days away from flying an Orca, I decided not to train the Indy command ship and mining foreman skills to IV, this frees up a lot of time. Once the skills in the pic are cooked I'll add in Indy command ship to 3 and consider it done.

Meaning that my lil'ol null alt will get back to training around the middle of next week.  I just need to get his +3 implant clone back into null from Amarr.... or have him sit in amarr for a "while" getting cybernetics to 4 lol.

In preparation for his move I've clone jumped to his "training" clone which has the implants. Even sitting in Amarr the amount of reds is crazy, I’ll have to make a mad dash no mater what, there is never a quiet time in a major trade hub.

My general Eve plans are to fly my Minmatar alt for a few missions. Then switch to my second main to farm level 4s' until a bpc of the cruiser can be bought from the LP store. Then switch over to having both mains's do the epic arcs (Caldari and Amarr). I also hope to get my Null alt back into action beyond the daily PI overwatch.

These plans are being hampered by my other gaming (mainly wow).
A few more matches of BF4 have seen some great lengthy games with many twists and turns, great action overall :)
Wow is too easy to get stuck into and end up grinding mats to go do X,Y and Z, then alt hop to get farming done.... next thing you know the day and night are gone and it's Monday morning..!
Am conflicted with wow at the moment, how to play, what character to play and if to play at all.I usually uncomplicated this by playing low level alts.

But I did get some things done in Eve.
I got to team up my alt with a friend for a few missions, I got to test the alt in the Tempest and he got to do his salvaging :)

Mission and Salvage 1
Mission and Salvage 2
An unscheduled downtime was a bummer on missions.
Nothing says I love you more than a person stealing your loot "because its part of the game" ;)
The tempest handled really well, cap was a problem but that was handled by the Tempest munching on cap boosters to getting a cap link from my friends Dominix.
Once more level 4 to be sure and I'll be happy with the Tempest fit.

My friend in the Dominix is instead of buying a second Dominix going to get a Hyperion. Along with the new Hyperion "paint" job and then fit it with t2 rigs. The fit is still being finalised but he should be a missioning machine in it. I've tried to suggest other ships/fits but his mind is set.... It should be good... I just have to loan him some isk to make it come true.

My Null alt did get to move out his PI assets and the first batch of Robotics went for a shade under 40 mill. I'll have to see how this goes over the coming weeks.

I may end up selling the Robotics and any extra materials on top so that I am not swamped with materials just lying idle.

The Dev blog’s regarding the summer expansion are all about Industry.
http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/reprocess-all-the-things
http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/building-better-worlds/
With the refining changes coming up I hope there isn't too much of a nerf in NPC stations, I know there really will be but I can hope!! Perfect refining with standings was a cool. I will have to see what else is said in dev blogs, I might have to start getting the POS modules for ore refining instead…

I did come across a good link to a site regarding station trading this morning....
http://theeveindustrialist.blogspot.ie/2014/04/station-trading.html

A UI tips and tricks vid from a ccp employee Bára Gunnarsdóttir was very helpful... it's the type of stuff that just needs to be shown once and can make a huge difference...

I may have vented a bit about the lack of a dust 514 community online but a post by Jester has an interesting last paragraph. Dust's CPM seems to be alive and well. They should be more vocal.
I've been doing a match or two a day and the bonus sp is maxed on a rolling per day basis, once built up over 8 days it stay’s maxed as long as you log in…
Some more matches have been one domination point, spawn point turkey shoot’s. With matches like that I tend to just spawn in the starter gear and not lose any purchased items…while trying to outflank the enemy.
I still have to mess about with the Amarr freebie gear I got as well as the keyboard and mouse option of control……
  _____________________

The WoW distractions are all based around going back to old raids with a friend to get achi's and to see if mounts drop etc.

I finally got the swift white hawkstrider yesterday.  My new insta-boosted rogue has been a very lucky charm in regard to getting rare boss mount drops. First the Raven lord and now the white hawkstrider. I will have to try a few more with him :)

I should be doing a lot of gearing up through raiding and tweaking of gear with Mr Robot but I just end up redoing characters transmog's....  like my Paladin... he can't hit for much.... it's an epic battle to kill a wounded farm critter... but dámn he looks good doing it.... ;-p

If only Eve could let it's ships be changed in a similar way to transmog's....

I felt my hunter needed an update so on a whim I altered him a bit:
