Sine my last post I've continued slow but sure progress with the next 'main job'; The Ferris Wheel.
But the no longer available demo was kept on my mind. Partly because I'd missed it and it had PowerWash content I'd not seen; And partly because I wanted to see what mechanics had been ditched/changed and evolved into the new current released version.
So with the demo no longer 'officially' available I took an opportunity to download the last demo(v0.1.2) I could find. An Internet Archive version of the old official demo site(link to that download from them). Not a bad download at 2GB with no install needed. With no install needed it's an even better and more approachable piece of software. It's not perfectly without glitches. It's a demo. I'm just happy I could get it and run it.
Besides noticing the obvious changes(enhancements to game mechanics and UI etc) that go along with seeing a reversion of a game, especially back to an early demo, a few things struck me. Mainly the similarities. The ding of a clean object. The shine of the show dirt option. The playground that grew up and got an upgrade to the main game. If I'd played the demo first and then the main game I'd have been happy the dinosaur had made it to the full version.
As for mechanics that changed. The Dirt was more forgivable cleanable in the demo. I'm glad that ladders became placeable and added a step ladder and scaffolding in the full game. In reverse I'm glad that windows breaking didn't get to the full version! That said I wonder if they planned to implement an actual pressure mechanic to the powerwashers given the gauge on screen. Maybe it was just a nozzle indication and a nice touch for quick identification....
There's lots of other details that have been changed. Gnomes made it to the game but not the children's windmills(Whirly Windmills?). The sprayers became more accurate and the % of dirt to clean to get 100% lessened, even then I commented on that last post. The Demo has so much more than just the spirit or outline of the 'full' game. It makes me wonder if the only reason the demo was taken down was their brand partnership with a certain powerwash company!
