Minecraft(with a side of No Mans Sky)....

It's been a while since I've been into Minecraft and maybe longer since I've been back to my 'main' map in any meaningful way. Two things sparked a return. The resurgence of Minecraft in the gaming spheres (like jacksepticeye, here, here and here) and the No Man's Sky Update - Beyond. Why mention No Man's Sky in a Minecraft post? Because it's easy to compare the two. In my mind only one exploration game had wiped my progress (NMS) and the other was still intact since the first day I set foot on the beech..... The choice was simple. Yea I may still be just a tab bitter about NMS and my progress being wiped.

I did hop into NMS for a moment to check out the new update. What I did see was that Aliens now get out of their ships, stand by them for player interactions. You also see them walk towards their ships to take off, which is nice since they used to just lift off without warning. But I stopped playing after that when I went to my freighters bridge to find my crew had been changed from a mix of races to all space suit clad Korvax. Booooooooo I liked my old Gek crew!

Freaking changes again. No wonder the past two weeks has seen me go back to Minecraft more and more.

Anyway back to the other reason. It's an interesting experience to see other gamers play a game you were or are currently into. It's entertaining but also allows you to see items/mechanics/content you may not have seen yet yourself(Bells! Raids!). For me the main things I wanted to do were to 'get pets' and expand my rail network to setup a 'base' in a Jungle biome. And if I could learn the new way to fix my Elytra wings that would be good as well.

While it's great to be able to look up minecraft online and find how to use an item; There's still fun in figuring stuff out. The game has a wider sense of adventure that's compelling. It's fun to just wander in the game.

Thankfully my recent time in game has meant that learning was done and pets were given a home. As well as much faffage! Like old building renovation, one thing leads to another and then it's thee hours later and I'm sitting in the dark. I've still yet to see Bees.

I finally got to use some name tags. My main (in the middle) 'residence' got a dog.

My new rail line Jungle home got a cat and a parrot. Minecraft fun times, potential real world nightmare.

On the other end of the line I setup another 'base', no pets here as the amount of night time enemies that spawn is high. It's more of a mob grind combat zone/area. Keeping things bright and high up was a must for a homestead.

A nearby village has been decimated due to the amount of  'combat'. So much so that I've no idea where the villagers have run off to. I've made that my own as well. Strategic placement of water that will push enemies into either cactus or lava. I've also taken down some of the buildings for materials. Waste not, want not etc. Grinding mobs there has in turn gotten me to learn that I needed to be awake for three nights to allow 'newer' enemies to spawn(Phantoms).

Those new enemies have a chance to drop the new item needed to repair the Elytra wings. The good old days of only needing leather are well gone. Thankfully you only need 4 membranes to fully repair the wings(unenchanted/named maybe more?). If you've got a lot of them left over they can also be used for potions. Not that I'd use them for those. I'll be hoarding them for wing repairs.

I keep saying I'm done fixing/improving or changing things in the game but I've found myself constantly going back again and again. Maybe that will change when Battlefield 1's mode rotation changes or Star Trek Online's new event/season kicks off... Gaming vs Time, the struggle continues.
