Star Trek Online Andromeda....

I had to laugh when I read about the latest STO item sale. It's clearly a poke at Mass Effect Andromeda.

"The Andromeda class, of course, if named after a distant galaxy, and you can assume control of this powerful ship to find your path in Star Trek Online. And whether you’re a Commander or a Captain"

One last time.....

I think I'll be waiting for some time to pick this game up.

So one last time a few more thoughts and opinions worth a watch.....

Yoga Joes....

Over the years I've maintained a passing interest in the realms of my childhood toy's(and stories/lore), specifically the updated versions of the likes of Star Wars, Transformers and G.I. Joe. So while searching for a Cobra trooper to adorn a shelf (as you do), I found this product hilariously funny on a few levels and I'm not into Yoga!!
Yoga Joes!

More Mass Effect Andromeda....

I've been reading and viewing a lot more reviews, thoughts and opinions. I've come to the conclusion that some of the odd characteristics/stances of the in game humanoids remind me too much that this game is the Muppet Baby version of Mass Effect. I can't shake that comparison. It's a head size, body action animation thing.

There are a lot of comparisons being made with this version of Mass effect and it's three predecessors, specifically the first Mass effect game. Unfortunately for Andromeda being compared to a 2007 game isn't coming out in it's favour.

Maybe Andromeda is suffering form a form of exaggerated Michael Bay lens flare on steroids.

Despite all that and my not having any hands on gameplay experience; I've seen a video that I agree with, as it sums up my overall thoughts an feelings on the game:

STO thoughts....

Interesting thoughts on the latest changes coming to STO's space combat.

Sensible choices for the reworked plans....

Makes sense.

Late night gold spend....

It's usually either a mistake or a badly thought out idea, but spending gold after a long day and a longer night can be 'interesting'.....

While I never really had the gold to spend on a Grand Yak during Pandaria, having the gold now with no real need for the Yak is always the way things go.... Oddly enough I've no buyers remorse.

14 things....

Worth a read:

"14 things I wish I knew before starting Mass Effect: Andromeda"

Just a thought....

There has been a lot of talk about The Matrix being 'rebooted' or 'remade'. Thankfully those words were cleared up by the director.

A lot of the other talk on the net is about a young Morpheus movie. That would be interesting.

I'd like to think it opens the door (pun intended) to the alternative Neo's, there were 5 others that walked the path before the film trilogy.....

Targets....

I didnt' expect the elusive targets to go on forever but I thought they would have made them available for longer, especially given the game just had it's official boxed release.

Balanced review and a playthrough....

I've been avoiding news and information about Andromeda. That hasn't been successful today since the games embargo period just ended and the internet has exploded with all kinds of information.

So far I'm not sold on the game, not for any technical reason I just don't like jetpack mechanics in my rpg/shooters. I'll wait for more details when people see further into the campaign and get a better feel for the games overall balance.

A balanced initial review worth a look:

An interesting playthrough from a youtuber and seasoned Mass Effect player:

The vids and articles above are the more rounded overview and experiences of the game.
There is however a torrential downpour of other vids and articles that contain the more bandwagon criticisms. The good? The bad and the ugly.....

Not sure about this starter playthrough review, it's not 'good' but it's better than the next two vids below:

No Man's Sky Pathfinder patch, patched....

The latest big patch(Path Finder) has been patched to change and fix some things. Which is good but leaves me wondering if I can now build vehicles on any planet (not just my designated home planet), why can't I plonk a base down anywhere. Not just where the game chooses.... Maybe it's a game technical thing....

An interesting video on the update:

A nice touch....

Euro Truck Sim 2 isn't a game I play often. But I do cast an eye on it every now and again.
I was glad to see that the Irish Paint Jobs Pack had been updated (weekend that's in it n all) with a few nice touches. Another game that gets lots of care and attention from it's developers.

Worth a watch:

Speaking of Hitman....

The latest update shows how dedicated the team are to the game.

Hitman progess....

My progress with the next level of Hitman (Marrakesh) is going slowly due to my persistence in trying to get the last challenge of the previous level.

This last challenge is one that requires a combination of actions. Mission Mastery.

Mission Mastery can be refined down to The Icon version within Sapienza.

Despite everything I've done previously in the mission, just to be sure that the five assassinations are covered I did five more from the contracts search.

My plan now is to follow each of the opportunities one by one to the letter and see how that goes. I'm not going to blame the lack of the challenge completing on a bug, not yet. The opportunities can be very, very tricky in the order you do things in and the disguise needed if any.

On a side note, I'm also the happy owner of the Requiem Pack that was on sale for the heft price of €1.99.

Steam is currently having a 50% off all Hitman content.

Eve Online.... Plex

1 Plex is now becoming 500 Plex. So it's really becoming the new Aurum... but the old Aurum is not staying:

No Man's Sky.... Another quick look.

With my previous posts I did check out a good bit of the new content giving me the conclusion that I didn't really find it compelling enough to stay with as an ongoing game basis. These new patch's just haven't gripped me. I feel no compelling reasons to do any of the new content as meaningful game play. Especially when the game play is more of the same gather stuff to build more stuff. For the major changes that the Founder and Pathfinder patches bring I'm left saying great work, well done Hello Games but try again. Which leeds me onto thinking about how many more times they can do these types of patches and where are they going with it all.
Do they intend to mimic more elements of Space Engineers, Minecraft and Astroneer? Do they need to reinvent the wheel for the game. For this patch they did, and it's done well enough for the most part but it's not radically different enough as a game mechanic to separate it form anything else out there.

So whats next? Is there a way they will bring real multiplayer to No Man's Sky? Whats the end goal here?

My motives with the game are to gain value from it. The more value the better. Having ongoing patches like this are good steps but ultimately do not add that much value as a game play experience in my view. That's not to say that other people aren't getting maximum value and game time from these new enhancements. For me, for now, I'd rather play something else while watching those other people on a side screen having their max value. At least that way I feel I gain some of the same experience while doing something else.

All tinfoil hats aside I did find myself at a loose end for 20 minutes and wound up clicking on the games icon. My reasoning being to at least see and experience the new vehicles once. I loaded up my normal game/previous save and had a look.

First up the Roamer.
It was a bit odd at first to control a ground vehicle in the same way as the spaceship. Mouse pointing is less intuitive for a ground vehicle control than the use of the W & D key's of a WASD control system. But it did what it said it was. It's a four wheel drive roamer. You can drive it up very steep inclines/mountains but it's not Spiderman. Using the spacebar gives a pogo stick style jump to your roamer to let it escape small non scalable "steps" that it wouldn't normally be able to escape. There is an upgrade for boosting speed but I didn't delve that far.

To do the other two vehicles I had to change to a creative mode planet. The other two vehicles are the small, light, fast hovering Nomad & the huge, lumbering eight wheel Colossus.

I hopped on the Nomad for a spin but you may as well use the Roamer (it's more 'fun'). I'd say the Roamer with the speed upgrade would also be as fast if not faster.
The Colossus with it's built in mining laser I felt was too big, slow and cumbersome to be practical. No matter how necessary it is to mine specific ore with, it annoyed me to use.
It felt like I was stuck in rush hour traffic behind a truck. The view when in the vehicle isn't a real behind view like the others its more an on top view. It's doesn't feel right unless you are on the flat and at max speed. If the terrain isn't flat then the camera angle makes the Colossus fill your screen. Lots more work needed with that vehicle. I can't help but ask did they not test this out. How easy would it have been to have this vehicles pilot view be at least be double the distance than that of the other "normal" vehicles. I say more broken inside the vehicle views than I really needed. Immersion be gone.

Ghost Recon Wildlands....

I'm about as far from a recon mission as can be. I'm really enjoying it. My character has started in on his fourth region in the game.
The more I play the more I'm reminded of Clear and Present Danger. With this new coastal region's cartel theme based around submarines I might be breaking out my Sean Connery accent sooner than I think.

What I work on first in a region are the commendations, skill points (blue icons) and collectibles (blue gun icons). Along with the intel (white notepad symbol and the yellow folders). I then work on the green rebel operations. I've heard a lot of negative talk that they are repetitive; I find them not to be. There is enough variety in the steal boat/plane/chopper or the kill convoy and tag the truck, besides they are short, easy enough and entirely skipable if you don't want to do them.

I like to do at least a few to get the cooldown level raised even just a little bit. I wouldn't binge on them for it. It is nice to see a lower cooldown on the three I use most, the rebel help, mortar support and the free car.
Besides during every other activity there is a chance to tag a smaller quantity of the same resources. So far they have covered my upgrade needs regarding improving skills. I might end up doing a lot more of those missions if the difficulty in the cartel begins to get worse and I really need to up my skills.
Getting the rebels to be more active doesn't hurt either. I've seen some interesting rebel -v- cartel -v- unidad battles, while I sneak round and grab the intel I needed.

I'm still very much a fan of the graphics. Can you tell:

Star Trek Online....

Arc Games are applying their three principles to the space combat side of Star Trek Online. I'm looking forward to these changes. I've seen a few posts about how the changes could/should effect current builds. It would seem to be a tinfoil/spreadsheet heaven for those so inclined. My characters have a more ad-hoc outlook for gear/ship builds based around what works for them at the time. It will be interesting to see if they stay effective. I'm thinking they should.
