Well the new live event was last night and the odds were not in my favour to join in on it.
Late leaving the job, traffic was backed up worse then usual and I ended up having to go a longer route in a shorter time that still delayed me. So I was in no rush to get online to eve after missing the kick-off time.
When I did log in on the nearest alt to the action, about 4 jumps away, time dilation was horrendously bad. That was the other motivator to log off and go do something else for a bit.
A good write up by Jesters Trek goes into detail:

Judging by it the event was a nightmare and not a real planned
synchronised event.
It was CCP pushing a large number of people together from hi-sec ( pve ), sending them against a large number of people from null ( pvp ), and watching the slaughter that ensued.
They call that a "live event"!!?
If I was part of it,I would have been in an alt in a pve fit navy frigate. I wouldn't have seen any great sights and I would have had my biomass handed to me for the lagged out privilege.
I feel miffed that CCP never seems to carry through on substance from idea's that could have been done a lot better in a more controlled way. I'd be more miffed if I had gone.
