BF1....

I've been having a few good matches of late. Strange how that ebb and flow goes.

One match in particular was going well last night, as a medic in multiple tanks. Just the way it works out. In the end though I was disconnected... Another frustration that happens. Fun while it lasted. Medic in a can!

Hitman....

After playing a lot of Ghost Recon, getting back into Hitman has lead to a very unsubtle run of the current elusive target. Needless to say there were lots of extra bodies on the floor.

In the past I would have been grumbling about not having done it perfectly or at least 'done well'. Not killing non targets, hiding bodies etc. Meh. Whats done is done(It was the chef in the speedboat with the silverballer!).

STO....

Another grind done....

Now that I have this years summer ship I don't think I'll be using it with any of my characters. Still it's good as an admiralty addition.

If I reach the mood I might test fit it on my main, with the other Vorgon ship consoles. I'll have to see how many rear 360 degree turrets I can use. Maybe the ship will surprise me.

BF1....

Hitman....

Another elusive target on the way.

Unfortunately not another target I can do on both PC and Xbox......

GRW....

I've tried the last part of the Archangel mission/challenge again; But just ended up doing the exact same thing. Definitely nothing subtle about it. Doing the challenge with all the rules would frustrate me so I'll avoid it from here on.

GRW....

So that new PvE challenge/episode was interesting if annoying. Missions with no subtlety. I didn't do it to complete the challenge. Having gone through it normally shows me that the constraints/rules of engagement are just like the Rainbow Six characters. Total bitches! Not worth my time.

Having gone through the tasks - investigate/track a rogue operator, do another rescue etc... The final cut scene had me wanting to shoot the Rainbow crew.
Well maybe not the French GIGN agent... At least she helped along the way.
Caveira's smartass one liners during the mission..... painful.

This version of Rainbow Six is a long way off the book never mind the other games.... glade I steered clear of Siege.

Bring back Sam any day!

Best part may have been finding Agent 47's suit in the wardrobe....

GRW....

There's a crossover in my crossover..... Rainbow 6 meets Ghost Recon meets Agent 47.....

No Man's Sky....

TLDR: The NEXT patch makes the game what it should have been on it's initial release.

--------------------

3rd person view and suit customisation are great.

Graphics updates are brilliant. Flight handling feels a lot more simulation than arcadey.

Alien interaction and gesturing is a lot more fluid and believable, a lot more 'alive' then they used to be.

I'm happy for the Xbox One players, they wont' have known any other version.

I really like the game in it's newly updated version. The NEXT patch makes the game what it should have been on it's initial release.

--------------------

But....

(engage 5 year old me tantrum)

The initial loading screen took 7 minutes to 'load'.

A small thing, but as a solo player seeing these start choices, they didn't inspire me about gameplay.

"be joined by random players" oh my what fun, ha, ha, ha(150% sarcasm).
I like to play solo but the inference here is that random strangers can join my game. More questions than answers. I do know I wouldn't like random strangers "joining" me. Imagine what a random Ã¡sshat could do with your base.... creating, destroying.....  Minecraft and dynamite come to mind.

The patch has wiped my previous footprint in the game.

I've been plucked from my planet and plonked down on a random space station.

My planet nowhere to be seen, the base I was standing in, the aliens I had recruited are gone.

The base is archived it said but I didn't have a big or intricate base. I don't really care about the base.

I've been moved, that's what really bugs me; Moved to a space station somewhere. Guess I should be glad I still have my ship, multi-tool and suit.

All my inventory's are filled with "obsolete" scrap with the changes to items and technology.

I liked my old planet, I got to choose it. I chose it because it had all the materials for building and warp fuel creation. Sentinel's were passive.

Did I mention I chose it and liked it.....

Now it's gone I miss it.... The view from my base door and even it's purple grass. This is where I was and wanted to be.

At least my previous scan's of systems/planets and lifeforms still exists. I still have my credit currency/nanites. So that's something.

For my short return to the game I wandered the new station layout and the aliens there. I chose the Atlas path on leaving the station. Harvested some asteroids. Then docked and got to meet Nada and Polo again for some wormhole coordinates which I didn't use.

I found a freighter for sale at 7,750,000 credits. I currently have 2 million so it may take a while. If I go that route.

I did travel to the nearby planet, hostile, storm ridden and a few materials I didn't know; And worse, materials I needed machinery to excavate. It was at that point that I released that starting fresh would be the better option. It's essentially how I find myself now, a forced restart. BUT; There is always a but! But that would lead on to a grind for materials. The same reason I couldn't be bothered with building up a base before. Even on my beloved, now lost planet.

So I'm stuck again as a traveller, foraging for materials to build warp cores to follow the atlas path?
Kind of already done that.
I've already travelled the stars, passed through wormholes and fought pirates.
I've already explored, learnt languages, meet aliens and fought sentinels.
I've already catalogued systems, planets and all the life they contain.

I might potter about with creative mode for the sake of it. See if that inspires me.

Weekly community challenges pfft.

For all the changes that NEXT brings I find myself at a stage where I'm just burned out with the game. Burned out with the gameplay and I haven't played it in month's; Burned out from waiting for NEXT.

As I said I'm happy for the Xbox One players, they won't have known any other version; It's a game with more streamlined options, more playable. If only it had been like this when I started. I've got close to 95 odd hours in the game as it is. I can't see me doing much more.

I cant' be bothered because there isn't anything really new...

I really need time and distance from the game.
.
..
...
....
I already liked where I was!
Not even leaving me in the same system!!

------------------

This patch plucked me from my journey, it's all I had previously and it's gone. I'm really bummed out about it. If you hadn't guessed already. As it turns out I'm not the only one to be unhappy at loosing their personal space no matter the base layout or recreating it somewhere else.

NMS....

A quick scan of the NEXT patch notes show a lot of changes, tweaks and updates, all look to enhance the game. I'm not sure where it all fits in with my previous gameplay. I may need to start fresh in the game and asses my options from there..... I'm not sure I really want to do that....

https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update/

GRW....

With the latest patch out the new player challenges do look interesting.....

Content everywhere....

Two releases today:

Ghost Recon Wildlands - Special Operations 2
&
No Man's Sky NEXT

I was interested to see what both game updates contain.

Ghost Recon has little that will cause me to get back to the game longterm again. I'll pop in for the new PvE mission's completion.
Of all the changes and additions I'm most interested in the further a.i. team customisation.

No Man's Sky is a different story as I've not see any detailed patch notes. I'll try it out but I doubt that a multiplayer addition to the game will do anything to get me back in. Especially if I can't be bothered to grind mats(for the vehicles/base) in the previous patches. I'm intrigued about getting a giant space freighter. Having a squadron of frigates at your command does sound good. A space base does appeal to me more than a ground base but I presume the cost would be equally astronomical.
I've lost all interest in the story mode. If I get into the game it's for the 'chilled exploration experience', however long that lasts. I think I could finally be done with this game. I've been waiting for this patch as a last ditch meaningful gameplay experience.

Other games coming up:

SOUTH PARK: THE FRACTURED BUT WHOLE - Bring the Crunch DLC - July 31
&
Stardew Valley Multiplayer Update - Aug 1st

South Park's next and last DLC for TFBW should prove to be the same as the last, fun if a bit short.

The changes to Stardew Valley on the other hand should be great. It'll also allow both myself and my wife to game together again.

Darkest Dungeon....

Getting the last trinket felt a bit anticlimactic given the shard grind.
I'm glad it's done and I've enjoyed the journey; But there is little motivation to press on further.... There is the kill counter, but......... "meh".

Darkest Dungeon....

I've been grinding away with the farm's endless mode. Mainly with non-merc characters. Which has netted me the crystals to buy all but one of the new trinkets. Another two or three long runs like that should see enough to buy it.

For part of the grind I took two sheildbreakers. Using them is exactly like the characters background, a dance. Leapfrogging forwards and backwards etc. It can be tricky when things get out of snyc.
Overall I'll be sticking with my 'normal' crew.

No Man's Sky....

There's so much glee with certain NMS players that are giddy for the 'NEXT' patch, specifically looking forward to destroying and robbing other players efforts... What a shift for the game if that is the case.
Sounds like it could be a free for all. I wonder if it'll be better or worse than something like Eve Online. Detailed patch notes are well needed at this point. Speculation is rife.

BF1....

Still plugging away....

Darkest Dungeon....

I've been spending far too much time in Darkest Dungeon. To the direct detriment of all other gaming progress. So much so that I've been able to save multiple positive quirks to my entire roster (30+). On top of removing negative quirks and diseases. I've even submitted the mercenaries to "treatments".

Progress on the new trinkets is still ongoing; Five left to get.

All this progress was to min/max the various roster teams, to get both a merc and normal crew in the roster that could make good progress in the new content. Both with the same class/skills setups. I've found a team best suited so far to be(from back to front): Vestal, Jester, Highwayman & Shieldbreaker. Based on bleeds, blights and sheer dps.

Vestal Skills:

Jester Skills:

Highwayman Skills

Shieldbreaker Skills:

I'm happy with the way they interact as a crew, complimenting each other etc. But I've been toying with the idea of replacing the highwayman with another Shieldbreaker, time will tell.

GRW....

I thought the latest challenge for the Predator was still ongoing but I guess it was changed...

Sam is back.

I feel like I'm in a bit of a time warp, that I've missed something. I was so sure the Predator challenge still had time left to it.

With Sam back the community has already completed it's part of the challenge.

No Man's Sky....

I've been interested for a while to see what comes in the new patch for No Man's Sky. The main elements of the 'NEXT' patch looks to bring multiplayer in a form that can be recognised, like having player avatars that look humanoid AND visible to other players.

Now that it's a week away I've become very "Meh" in my attitude towards the patch.
All the previous patches were aimed at fixing the (solo(ish) players) game. If I couldn't get into that version of the game I dont' see how a multiplayer update is going to appeal to my solo casual carebear gameplay.... "Meh". I'll need to see the patch notes....

BF1....

I've still been plugging away with BF1.

It's been getting harder to get "average" skilled matches. The bulk of matches now seem to be filled with clan based OP stomping. The number of times I've been on teams that are crushed is insane. I've watched these teams (while being dead) advance and it's been interesting. Very much so in regard to actual tactics. Some clans are using very real world tactics. Support providing suppression (lift and shift) both with LMG and mortars, allowing the assault crew to push in with medics no far behind. All moving in support of each other; Steamrollers. Impressive to see.

I'm still getting some fun out of the game but after a few matches of being stomped on it's no fun and just leads to a quit option. I wonder if BF5 will kill off the BF1 playerbase....

Hitman....

The Marrakesh section of the game will be free from tomorrow for a 'limited time'.
Another section of the game I'll get free for my Xbox Version.

Hitman....

The latest elusive target is another one that I can complete on both XBox and PC. I'd thought the PC version would be easier but it's turned out to have needed more mission restarts than I care to mention. So much so that frustration set in. I should have walked away altogether and come back to it in a day or two. But no, I messed it up and followed mistakes with mistakes compounding the shítstorm I'd created. The XBox run on the other hand went flawlessly.

STO....

I've missed a few day's of the summer event grind; And I've not been min/maxing that daily mission's 20 hour cooldown. With the end of the event being the 16th of August I've thankfully still got a lot of leeway left(almost double the day's to complete the remaining 600 vouchers). It's a casual grind, Risa beach life.

Darkest Dungeon....

Le Boofff... Yea I'm pro-BUFF....

RNG the RNG....

Defiance 2050....

Defiance 2050 looks like it should be a game that draws in a crowd. In reality it's an altered version of the original game.

Some back end and game systems changes but with the old problems of the original. Laggy and graphically poor by today's standards. For a game like this, being free to play, the gameplay needs to be "the best thing ever". The reviews say it's not. From what I've read I can't be bothered to even try it to see for myself. Any amount of time would be a waste. I've also read that the pay-wall is very obvious and bars players from any real meaningful progression without paying.

I might have to try Planetside 2 again..... Maybe not.....

BF1....

No joy with doing a poll, pity; But too good of an opportunity not to do a chopped down version with the added Benny Hill music.... Just for laughs.

Had to be done....

I'm now a public menace.

Hitman....

The Blackmailer is on his way.

This Friday.

With him taken down on Friday it'll only leave 3 more targets to complete the roster.
2 missed from when the game came out and I hadn't owned it yet plus one I failed to kill properly.

I'd consider it complete then but I still have Colorado and Japan on Pro mode to really "complete" the game..... Pro Colorado kicked my áss last time I attempted to do anything with it.

STO....

That +20 increase in speed is very noticeable, very happy with that upgrade.

BF1....

Another good video from LevelCapGaming on Battlefield 5, this time on weapon balance.

It may still be in Alpha and there may be buckets of balance and patches to come but I'm still not liking what I'm seeing of the gameplay.
---

On a side note I've been continuing to poke about with editing my gameplay recordings. In doing so I've been reminded that I used to listen to a lot more music(a whole lot more) while I gamed in the past. To a large extent that's been replaced by the colossal avalanche of Youtube content. Looking back at old footage is funny as it's got that background music on. Like a kind of fun time capsule, some music is niche and some of it is of it's day. Or whatever I was into at the time. Eclectic tastes and all.

Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway I got messing with the latest video edit and thought about adding in some non-copyrighted music... Just to see.... I'm no video or sound editing guru but I think it worked out well o.k. Picking the right music for random game happenings is a sound tech's job and I'm far from that.

To add background music or leave it as is.....?

Darkest Dungeon....

With the last memory collected I've built The Mill to complete the DLC additions to the districts. Another nice addition to the passive buff's for the roster.

With that done my next aim is to gather shards (1625 shards) to claim the remaining new trinkets from the nomad wagon. That'll be a grind.

Friday, 6 July 2018

STO....

I've said it before but the summer event doesn't feel like a grind; I think that feeling is due to the event having a very holiday activities, relaxing vibe. Apt and done well, really well. I've not been into any other games summer "events" more. I even feel out of place in my characters main uniform. It could be time to go full on Risa Picard and get the chest hair out...

I've not been interested in the new emotes bar one, the bat swing.

I'm a big fan of the new holographic versions of the caracal pets.

The best of which (imo) is the Pink/Purple version.

It's the small things in the game that make it well worth playing (at least for me).

BF1....

Not a bad match, some sniping, some medic'ic'ing.....

STO....

There are worse grinds in gaming.  Time to get all the pets!

Quake Champions....

With my thoughts on BF5 and the considerations of the Time to Kill in FPS games; I decided to dive into another multiplayer shooter, Quake Champions. Which was free for a time on Steam last month.

It's been a long, long time since I played the original Quake in multiplayer. Lots of memories of LAN matches. Quake Champions for all it's modern graphics and enhancements feels just like the original game, at least to me, even in it's current build. Fast but controllable in a meaningful way, survivable.

The match I recorded below was 50% A.I. on each team, so not too bad for a mid-day game.
The only thing missing for me was the Doom double jump, that in this game would be cool. I was thinking of retrying the Doom Multiplayer, then I reread my old post.... So old school rocket jumping it is!! I need to relearn that and not singe myself in the process.

It's a game I jumped into and liked from the start not just for nostalgia but for the gameplay. The classes seem well balanced to my amateur eye. There's a lot to like about Quake Champions, the gameplay as well as the out of match systems. Badges, classes,  reward crates to open that give cosmetic items, XP levels etc. etc. You can see those at the end of my video.

I may not play it much but it's a game I'll be keeping installed and an eye on when I'm not dipping my toes in.
