I've found that I like to enter a holding pattern/pause in technological evolution in my Dawn of Man gameplay. Specifically the end of the Neolithic tech before the dawn of the copper age.
The way the game allows you to manage your people in a micromanagement way without the micromanagement is great. Work area's save the game from grind.
It's interesting/fun and oddly hypnotic to watch the cycles of daily life:
