Guild of Dungeoneering....

Guild of Dungeoneering has been a game I've had on my radar since the middle of last year. It first came out in July of 2015. While it peeked my interest I never did a deep dive into really checking it out. That is until I got an e-mail from gog.com during the week where I saw it listed as a deluxe edition bundle for a discounted price. The base game, both expansions and the soundtrack were part of that bundle. It was enough to make me look up more details about the game.

In considering to buy it I looked up a few online thoughts on the game(like this), there have been a lot of updates to the game since it first released, like patches and the content packs/expansions.
It was this lets play that let me see what I would be really buying and I liked what I saw.

The hand drawn style and the music/narration is a great style that adds a lot to both the games atmosphere and the way you face the game.
So with the research done and the discount deal slowly counting down I purchased it and I'm happy to say that I've not been bitten by any buyers remorse.

I have to say that this game is by far the hardest tutorial I've played in years. The RNG was not favourable and in many ways is much more harsh than in Darkest Dungeon and that is saying something. I've felt more loss with my Darkest Dungeon characters dieing off but this game takes a different viewpoint.
It took me 5 dead chumps to get past the second mob of the tutorial/starter dungeon.
Like I said the RNG can be harsh. A bad streak can add to the frustration. Thankfully that is mitigated by both keeping that in mind(that it is RNG) and the humour levels of the game.

Where the Darkest Dungeon takes itself 99+% serious, Guild of Dungeoneering is very tongue in cheek with a less than 1% seriousness level and I love that.

Having this and Darkest Dungeon makes me feel like I now have both sides of my dungeon crawling gold coin.
It's a game I can recommend (at a discount) but it's not as easy as it looks on the outside.
