Eve, Eve, Eve Online.... Always an ongoing conundrum regarding it's longterm development direction. As much to the dev's as to the playerbase from what I've always seen. Grand designs, but projects that lapse over time and implementation. Don't get me started on the Mystery Code....But I do wonder what they will 'do' for a 20th year anniversary, if I'm thinking about it shouldn't they?
That's not to say they haven't improved the game(graphics, 64bit client, in game UI in so many ways).
Over time I'm glad that the bulk of my characters, the old Omega's are still 99.9% ready to restart if I chose to. My dedicated Alphas(and old trial characters) on the other hand have been chopped and changed a lot, mainly around skills and game mechanic access(level 4 missions no longer available). So with the conventions and fan fests I always keep an eye out for changes. Thankfully my playstyle is very base line so not much gets altered/out of whack for me. For the most part the quality of life changes benefit me more than most.
Eve Vegas has been on this last week and as usual was as overboard as ever. The atmosphere (attendees and devs) always seem (to me at least) like a type of drunk overbearing blokish clique(PvP leetist jocks maybe). Laughing and backslapping so hard it even hurts to watch. Each to their own. Where is CCP at non self run/promoted events? Time perhaps to stop playing to the hardcore home crowd echo chamber? So much grandstanding to the few instead of thinking of the larger audience/playerbase. They lost me a long time ago. I'm only looking for the game information that effects me. There was a sneak peek of the road-map ahead and I foresee PvP. Surprise, golf clap, surprise. Time will tell but anything with 'explosive rewards' generally means it's the PvE players doing the exploding and the PvP players scooping the remains(rewards).
A game of 4 quarters... |
Still amazes me that CCP know the vast majority of their games players are not PvP focused, yet they always hammer on about PvP. Silent majority eh.
I might just stick with an out of the way Alpha and potter away with some lower level missions for fun(plinking).
