Evil Genius 2 World Domination....

A day or so after blogging about the game I hadn't been back to it till a few days ago. I was hit by a completionist(of a sort) niggle to at the very least get to Max's end game 'device', which grew in it's compelling nature as I thought I was already close to it. The game does have a base build, micromanagement joy to it. It got me back via a reasoned endgame goal I could tell myself as if it was a limited thing but lead to 'just playing'...... For hours.

So progress is ongoing and gameplay has been fun the last few days. For sure I'm playing more of it than I thought I would. The more I do the more I get sucked into it. The games base mechanics are solid(2x pun intended).

The lair work I talked about has been done. A second level was put in(Basement). Research was moved and expanded there. As was energy production, another gold vault and staff auxiliary rooms to 'keep them fed and happy'.

The control room on the 'main' level was expanded(as were a bunch of other rooms, new and reworked). That all lead to more and upgraded criminal networks around the globe. Objectives were completed and rewards collected. The M.I.D.A.S. project was done and built, tested and upgraded.

Just as I thought Max's 'real' end game was around the corner the game has both surprised and annoyed me. Surprised in additional good gamplay and annoyed in what appears to be endgame is anything but. It's 'somewhat' drawn out and repetitive with mandatory objectives while also having more threats from enemy agents and hordes of their do-gooders to annoy your base plans. Still it's not as much a grind as it sounds, there's fun in it's doing.... A lot more to manage and maintain. There are pacing issues.

It's the waiting that gets me. Maybe that's just me and being impatient about the process's of world domination. Game mechanics for 'reasons'. Such as only being allowed to do one side story at a time. Or one research item..... Or one scheme per country....

What I'd give for a research queue.

Then again if it was all doable the way I wanted I'd be complaining about it being done too much too soon.

It's a game that has a limited hook for me but a hook nonetheless. A game that's grown on me and that I do like but the longer I play per session the more it starts to overstay it's welcome. Conundrum indeed. Maybe that's another reason I've left it so long between sessions. I may not play it for another while but when I do I'll hope to 'finish it', maybe. Maybe two or three more 'sessions'....
