Eve started as a need to try something else. Up till then the more
traditional single player games were my thing. The only mmo I had tried was Wow. Eve being an mmo was neither a plus nor a minus, I just wanted something different at that time. I was aware of eve from one or two articles
that spoke of some sort of spaceship game that had politics and intrigue but I really didn't know what it was. With trials being free, I thought why not give it a go.
It must have been about 2008 when I tried Eve first. Am sure I was only on the trial for a few days. I recall messing about and not knowing how the systems security status
worked (who owned what system, maybe I was aware that there was a danger in going
into different sec status systems and being exploded). I do recall warping
to this thing on the overview called a stargate, hovering over it for a minute
then warping back to mining some more in system. With no isk and not knowing much about the game (I didn't know noob frigs are replaced for
free) there was a fear of loosing ships. I don’t think I ever moved into any other system. I don’t remember anything bad happening.
The lose of a ship and gear was a big thing, like the building jump scene in the matrix film.
I recall one of the missions seemed to loop, kill the one npc frig that showed up .. explode it and repeat … it did not seem to end so I just warped away.
Don't think I even finished the basic tutorials. I recall mining in the starter frig and the strongest recollection I have is the sound of the ore being mined… that crunch and pop that sounded like progress, while the lasers hummed.
The logon screen and music denoted a galaxy busy in its own affairs and far removed from my lil noob frigate. Cool login screen, pity they are no longer present in game since the launcher was put in

This time I had more of an interest and started to understand more about the complexities of the game.
Tutorials were done and completed, a second character was made to go through tutorials again. Gear was gathered and isk assembled. One or two bits may have been purchased from the market!!! I think I had tried to start normal missions. I recall selling everything I had to get the old osprey ship to mine in ( when it was a mining ship ). The seed was planted that this was one I would play.
I recall undocking and seeing 5 or 6 large ships ( I know
now they were battlecruisers ), but I was in awe watching them fire at
each other , pounding away, drones flying everywhere.
The trial lapsed but even after a few months it was still in
the back of my mind.
About 6 months later, third time lucky, I took another
trial, about half way through that trial I signed up for the full account.
About 2 month’s into that I was emailing a friend I knew from wow,
catching up on goings on and what we were playing, much to our surprise it
seemed he started his eve trial a few weeks before mine and had signed up to it
as well! So I joined the corp he was in and both of us have played ever since.
Got a second account about 5 or 6 months after the first.
Created alts. Played.
Tried to get another friend to play as well but it didn’t hook him
into it. Still hasn’t to this day.
Found out another rl friend had played it for years previously but had lapsed his accounts and only slightly returned about a year after I joined but he has turned his back on it.
