Verdun....

I may be getting my memories mixed up but I always thought the game was only recently 'just' out of development with a 'full' recent release. Yet all the info I can see lists 2015 as it's 'release date'. I was all set to say it's just out of development but as a 2015 release game it's not just out of development; I'm so surprised by that fact because I think the game really lacks polish. The player physics in particular. The promo video's belie it's roughness. That's not to say the gameplay isn't good. I 'just' would've expected more.... I've no real knowledge of the games development history; But if it's as it is after a 'big update' I can only imagine what I'd have thought of it before that.

WW1 as a setting for a multiplayer game I'm biased towards BF1. I'm 'into' Battlefield 1. I've over 300 video's of PC BF1 on my Youtube channel... I'm massively biased. If I'd no other choice of WW1 multiplayer game and saw Verdun for free then yes I'd jump at it. Probably give it more leeway. Still as it's free from Epic this month I was curious. So of course I tried it.

I can't say it's a good game but it's not a bad game either. Like I said it's rough, unpolished. It's take on WW1 is more of a simulation take(kind of). That brings both good and bad. The accomplishments and the frustrations. Or whatever screams of a dead(wounded?!?) player can be classed as......Simulation?

When I say rough I mean it in graphical animations, player physics and gameplay mechanics.

Melee fighting, stabbing and bayonet charging are OP; Seeing them in action is like falling down by being looked at.

Yet for all the bad I say there is something about the game that begs for more gameplay. It's lack of BF 1 enhanced theory crafted items makes for a natural hardcore mode. It's 'unpolished' state gives it an 'oldskool' vibe..... Which is kind of appealing and very much a personal perspective aesthetic take. Maybe I'm reading too much into that.... Maybe I'm being too forgiving.

Being new to me game it took time to get used to the new icons, ui indicators etc. But once done I think I acquitted myself well enough in the first match.  A bit of an evolution form clueless to somewhat educated.

It's just not a game for me. I can't forgive it so much when I can 'just' go play a better WW1 game in BF1.

I'd have tried more but I've gotten into BF1 on Xbox now as well.... Sales'n'all(more on that in another post).

Verdun is out 5 years!?! I find how I missed this game for that long as bananas as how this game in it's various iterations has persisted.
Verdun is on Xbox as well now!?!
I can't believe the game is that old....
On so many platforms....
And is still being played.....
With it in it's now 'improved' condition..... 'that's' improved!?
Better polished 'tripple A' games get such shiz for minor things.... And Verdun gets a pass on so much.... I'm a bit gobsmacked by that.

For me it helped that is was free. To at least try it, not to stay. If not free I'd have done nothing with it. Free is free. Can't complain about that. So I'll say it again... It's not a polished game. It's not bad; It's not good..... Verdun for 'free' is decent. But if you can play BF1.... I'd say go play BF1!!

Here's my first Verdun match.
