Quake....

Speak of the devil.....After just mentioning Quake, bringing my nostalgia for it to the fore; They go and bring out a 'modern' systems version of the games. Viva la Quake franchise(Steam sale)!

Getting access to the new version through Xbox Ultimate for PC is good(Quake and Quake II). Getting access to the N64 'addon' is hilarious to see. As smooth as the new 'normal' updated version is to play(it's an amazing update of the game, blown away), having the N64 version as well, seeing it's 'filter' view is retro gold in action. It's been a highlight for me. That and the multiplayer bots. Lots of fun had and to have yet.

Messing about and seeing the new version of the game has been fun. It really is so smooth it's a massive retro nostalgia feel without the hassle of older software. From all I've seen so far it's an amazing revision of the original Quake(not tried the second). I tried to get my old demo to work but the console commands weren't recognized. Which means that the commands have changed and/or it's just not possible to play older files. I've not tried my old saved games. Nostalgia is a big part for me. With the old version of the game still working I'm kind of ok not doing anything with this new update version(playing it more fully). Maybe somewhere down the line when I see the lot bundled for a super cheap price(after today)...... But yea been there and done that and I like my nostalgia. Besides I'd not be into such a fast paced PvP online today. This is no longer 1996 or 1998.. Playing it now wouldn't be the same(for me). Matches would be fast and get frustrating really quickly(I'd say it would be OTT competitive fast).

The N64 version is one I'd never seen let alone played back in the day. Given the 'restrictions of a port' to the N64 back then it's differences are interesting to see now(for me). A game I know so well as a console version that's got it's 'limited' ported layout and yet has 'better' differences 'of it's day' like colour lighting....Retro give and take fun. I find it interesting to see the differences, that's all. Like I said a game I know back to front and there's a version as an add-on that's the same but different. Shape of the rooms, lighting, textures, whats missing and not etc.etc.....
