I've reloaded the last of the older saved games I had and with my new found feel for the game I completed it. Not that I had to do much more than get the last missing treasure. I'm happy to put a new save same onto the end to "finalise" that playthrough. I'm sure I didn't put a similar save there originally due to it being so close to the end. But the game at that stage doesn't give you an opportunity to go beyond one final divide of the loot as it automatically retires the character based on his age.
I may try to see how much longer I can go but the crew will probably turn "angry" and force a first mate fight. I'm not sure if they leave you on a desert island... that may just be if you fail with a Mantalban fight.
But I do know they turn mutinous and can do so by leaving in one of your ships with all it's cargo and gold.
Going from a fully upgraded ship in my old end game save to a standard non upgraded starter ship is a jolt to the system.
While I enjoyed being back in the game as a new character it's been the continuation of the old save that has spoilt me. I returned to the new starter set of saves last night and was offput by the effort I needed to bring in a sea battle. Putting it another way, trying to hammer a standard transport ship with my new starter characters ship with only 4 cannon is a slow process. Compared to one volley from my older characters ship resulting in the enemy ship striking it's colours and surrendering. It's a contrast. The speed of the smaller/starter ships is hilarious. I just need to take things a bit slower in the new replay. Maybe I'll strike out for Mantalban straight away and get a lot of upgrades through defeating him.
I did find a ship name to be a true treasure off this island...
I'm sure there was a better Treasure Island jokes but....
